Obituary of Gordon (Gord) Michael Dunnette

Gordon Dunnette, beloved husband of Barbara Dunnette (nee Jordan) of Calgary, AB, passed away on Tuesday, May 10, 2022 at the age of 78 years. Gord was born in Calgary, Alberta on November 30, 1943, to Gilbert and Katherine Dunnette (nee Goettler).
Gordon was the quintessential family man; an incredibly hard worker dedicated to his wife and family until the very end. Gord never missed a single day of work, and spent the majority of his career in telecommunications; work that helped pave the way for some of our current day telecommunications technology. He also had a passion for airplanes and aviation, and though he wasn’t able to realize his dream of becoming a pilot, he was thrilled to have recently had the opportunity to take to the skies with flying lessons.
Gord had a large network of family, friends, and former colleagues, and was probably best known for his punny sense of humour and deep love of music. Visitors to his home would often be greeted with tunes as they approached the front door. Gord would reluctantly turn down the volume on the stereo for supper time, but definitely enjoyed his music loud.
Gord married Barb in 1971, and raised four daughters in Calgary, Alberta. In addition to his loving wife, he is survived by daughters Christine Dunne and Meghan Dunnette of Calgary, AB, Catherine Dunnette of Turner Valley, AB, and Theresa Dunnette of Winnipeg, MB, sons-in-law Trevor Dunne, Tyler Bilawchuk, and Jeff Boland as well as his beloved grandchildren Arya, Audrey, and Charles Boland. They will deeply miss their Grandpa White Hair. He is also survived by his siblings Lois Dunnette (Barry Johnson), Rob Dunnette (Lydia), Laura Dyer (Steve) and Don Dunnette.
Gordon was predeceased by his younger sister Elaine Dunnette, and his treasured sons Baby Dunnette and David James Dunnette. Gord found deep comfort in the prospect of being reunited with his departed loved ones upon his passing. His family expects a large welcoming party will be ready and waiting to usher him into the afterlife.
Funeral Services will be held at McInnis & Holloway (Park Memorial, 5008 Elbow Drive SW, Calgary, AB) on Friday, May 20, 2022 at 2:00 p.m. Reception to follow in the Hospitality Centre at the Funeral Home. Condolences, memories, and photos can also be shared and viewed here.
