Obituary of Laura Griffiths

December 19, 1959 – Calgary, Alberta

May 12, 2022 – Calgary, Alberta

On Thursday, May 12, 2022, I have lost my wife, my best friend, and my buddy, Laura Griffiths. She was born in December 1959 and lived for 22,790 sunrises.

Laura is survived by her husband, Barry Griffiths; sisters, Helen Riehl Chalmers (Keiran Chalmers), Teresa Lowry, and Susan Riehl; brother John Riehl, and a herd of nieces, nephews, great-nephews, and great-nieces. She was predeceased by her parents, Tom and Pearl. Laura also had some very close, personal friends, Ursula, Maureen, Catrina, and Arlene.

Laura worked for A.G.T./Telus for twenty-four and a half years in customer service, where her patience and empathy helped her to deal with the occasional idiots who tested her resolve. Laura always had a book at hand, loved a cold Pepsi, and watching the Flames games, but swore like a sailor when the action heated up. She loved cooking and going out to restaurants to try different ethnic foods. Her kitchen was referred to, by those fortunate enough to enjoy her cooking, as the best restaurant in Calgary. Her favourite season was autumn. She enjoyed the outdoors and seeing a blue sky, especially over the prairies. She often said she didn’t care what the temperature was, as long as the sky was blue. Laura enjoyed listening to CKUA as they exposed her to so many artists and styles of music. Laura was a special woman whose personality and open mind made it easy to talk to her, get to know her, and become her friend.
