Obituary of Marg Jensen

October 2, 1932 - Turner Valley, Alberta

May 15, 2022 - Calgary, Alberta

Margaret Edna Alberta Armstrong Jensen was born in Turner Valley, Alberta on October 2, 1932 and passed away on May 15, 2022.

She was predeceased by her husband, Eric Jensen, mother, Ruth Merriman Farstad, father, Fred Armstrong, and all three siblings Edith Williams, Earl Armstrong and Donn Armstrong. Her early years were in oil boom town communities of Turner Valley, Royalties, Windfall, Whitecourt, and we all settled in the Village of Airdrie in 1967. She had wonderful memories of spending the summers with her grandparents near Retlaw, AB.

She is survived by all four of her children, Dawn Jensen (Del Jensen), Stan Jensen (Zelda Jensen), Leeanne Spickett (Rae Spickett) and Joni Bjerke (Richard Bjerke); her eight grandchildren, Alisha, Adam, Sonia, Priscilla, Shane, Lori, Andrew, and David; and seven great-grandchildren, Nolan, Ayla, Theodore, Vanessa, Evelyn, Chloe and Emma.

She took in numerous foster kids from birth age until adopted and loved them with all her heart. Her joys were her children and grandchildren. Her granddaughter Priscilla was such a huge help to Nana over the years.

She taught many people in the Airdrie area how to knit with patience and continued support for anyone who had a question for years after lessons. She never turned anyone away who asked for help. She was largely responsible for establishing the Airdrie Public Library and if you look closely, you will see a table with a memorial plaque dedicated to our dad hidden under one end of the table. She attended the Airdrie United Church for 50 years and enjoyed being part of that community in anyway that she could from attending services, being on the board and joining UCW.

Her guidance and support in the early Airdrie community is still felt to this day. She was an established small business owner and impressed on her family the value of supporting local, giving back to the community, and leading with fairness and purpose. She will be missed.

A Celebration of Life will be held at the Airdrie United Church (212 - 1 Ave NE, Airdrie, AB). on Friday, May 20, 2022 at 1:00 p.m. Lunch will be provided at Woodside Seniors Club (411 Woodside Drive NW, Airdrie) after the service. A Private Family Interment will take place at Mountain View Memorial Gardens. Condolences, memories, and photos may be shared and viewed here.
