Obituary of Dorothy Isobel Kowula
November 16, 1933 – Glasgow, Scotland
May 15, 2022 – Calgary, Alberta
It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Dorothy Isobel Kowula (nee Stephen), of Calgary, AB. She passed away on Sunday, May 15, 2022 at the age of 88 years.
Dorothy was born in Glasgow, Scotland and immigrated to Toronto. There she met and married David Egilsson in 1957. In 1972, after many happy years in Toronto, Dorothy, Dave, and their then young children moved to Calgary to be closer to Dave’s extended family. After Dave’s passing, Dorothy later married John Kowula and they enjoyed time with their families.
Dorothy was loved by so many. She will be most remembered for her thoughtfulness, kindness, and her beautiful smile. Oh that amazing laughter that could brighten any day.
She truly saw the beauty and joy in everything around her, and she showed her appreciation for even the smallest kindnesses shown to her.
She fiercely loved her family and friends. Although her grandchildren never lived in Calgary, Dorothy happily and frequently travelled the world to be with her grandchildren and together they all created many happy memories. She was such an inspiration for her children and grandchildren and her beauty will live on through them.
Dorothy is survived by her son Stephen (Linda) Egilsson, and daughter Linda (Brian) Ritter, and her two beloved grandchildren Isabelle and Luke Ritter. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews and their families both in Canada and abroad.
Dorothy was predeceased by her first husband David Hall Egilsson and husband John Kowula. She was also predeceased by her parents Henry and Isabella Stephen, her two brothers Henry and Douglas and her sister Margaret who died as an infant. She was also predeceased by her niece Helen Hallett.
Funeral Services will be held at McInnis & Holloway (Fish Creek, 14441 Bannister Road SE, Calgary, AB) on Saturday, June 11, 2022, at 2:00 p.m. Reception to follow in the Hospitality Centre at the Funeral Home. Condolences, memories, and photos may also be shared and viewed there.
