Obituary of Diane Rawlings

April 8, 1942 – Coventry, England

May 20, 2022 – Calgary, Alberta

Diane Rawlings (nee Beattie), of Calgary, Alberta, passed away on Friday, May 20, 2022, at the age of 80 years.

Diane was born in Coventry, England on April 8, 1942, to Jack Charles and Vera Beattie (nee Phillips). Jack was a Canadian soldier fighting in WWII and Vera was an English War Bride. Diane immigrated to Edmonton, Alberta with her mother in 1945 at the age of 3 years, later to be joined by her father.

Diane grew-up in Edmonton and graduated from Victoria Composite High School in 1960. She also worked in the administrative office at the Royal Alexandra Hospital.

Diane married Douglas Frederick Rawlings on September 7, 1962, after being introduced to each other by Doug’s older brother, Bob, at a curling tournament in Edmonton. Doug was later transferred through his work in the petroleum industry to Calgary in 1964, where he and Diane settled together and had a family. While being a stay-at-home mom, Diane shared her love for children by volunteering at her daughters’ schools. Later, she worked for several years in retail at Woodward’s in Chinook Centre.

Diane will be remembered most as being an incredible mother, helping to raise her two younger brothers, then raising her own two daughters, and finally caring for her grandson, of whom she was very proud.

Besides her devoted husband, Diane is survived by her two loving daughters, Susan Diane Rawlings (with her husband and son, Kenneth James and Cameron Angus Bews, respectively) of Calgary and Deborah Ann Rawlings of Medicine Hat.

Diane is also survived by her two younger brothers and their families, Jack Charles Beattie Jr. (Brenda) and John Richard Beattie (Patricia) of Edmonton. Diane was predeceased by her parents.
