January 31, 1939 – Calgary, Alberta

May 30, 2022 - Calgary, Alberta

Our family is deeply saddened by the passing of our beloved mom and gramma, Marilyn Shackman on Monday, May 30, 2022, at the age of 83 years.

Marilyn was born in Calgary, Alberta, on January 31, 1939, to Florence and James McDougall, one of eight children in a large and loving family.

After attending Western Canada High School in Calgary, Marilyn worked at the City of Calgary until her marriage to Arnold Shackman in 1958. Marilyn was devoted to her family and friends and was particularly proud of her four children and six grandchildren.  She will be remembered by all for her good nature, positive attitude, and contagious smile. Marilyn enjoyed playing cards with family and with her many friends at Legacy Estates. She had a passion for standardbred horse racing, something she was involved with for many years with her husband Arnold and children.  She was also an avid fan of the Calgary Flames.

Marilyn enjoyed many vacations with her family over the years. After the passing of her husband in 2001, she enjoyed hosting her kids and grandkids on many vacations and a wonderful time was always had by all.

Marilyn is survived by her four children, Brant, Brad (Valerie), Janice (Shawn Anderson) and Sharon (Robert Anderson), all of Calgary, Alberta; as well as her six grandchildren, Kelly, Tyler, Kimberly, Jordan, Austin and Cole. She is also survived by her brothers, Jim McDougall (Barb) and Dan McDougall, both of Calgary, Alberta, as well as three sisters, Edith Shields of Calgary, Alberta, Heather Kientz (Frank) of London, Ontario, and Lynn Blott of Highlands Ranch, Colorado.  Marilyn is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Marilyn was predeceased by her husband Arnold Shackman, her parents, Florence and James McDougall, her brother Ken McDougall and sister Jessie Ryan.

Our family would like to thank the South Calgary Health Campus doctors, nurses & staff, as well as Dr. Thomas Lim and Dr. Mark Wong, for their wonderful care of our mom.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Canadian Lung Association in memory of Marilyn.  Condolences, memories, and photos may be shared and viewed here.
