Obituary of Shirley Ann MORRISON
August 13, 1935 – September 8, 2017
Shirley Morrison of Calgary, AB, passed away on Friday, September 8, 2017 at the age of 82 years.
Mum was born in London, Ontario as the first child of Sam and Doris Parkinson and after several relocations and the addition of her brother Dale, the family settled in the Scarboro area of Calgary in 1945. The family found community as members of Scarboro United Church, The Calgary Golf and Country Club and Glencoe Club – all associations that Mum held dear for the duration of her life. An excellent student, she proudly graduated from Central High School and went on to teach at the elementary level at William Reid School. Mum married our dad, Neil on July 6, 1956 and then started their family of us three girls in 1959.
Our Mum was a gracious hostess, a friend to many, enjoyed travelling world wide – most favourite was Vancouver and Maui, was a determined golfer and avid curler. Our family will remember Mum most importantly as a devoted wife, mother and grandmother; a fair minded referee in all situations.
We loved Mum dearly and will miss her very much.
Shirley is survived by her daughters, Vicki (John Schleppe), Valerie (Ian Brown) and Jill (Brian Neufeld); grandchildren, Michael Schleppe (Lucie), Caitlyn (Nathan Cameron), Adam Schleppe, Matthew Brown, Vanessa (Marc-Andre Gagniere) and Lindsay (David Ford); sisters-in-law, Sharon Parkinson, Marilyn Burtt and Gail Thompson.
Shirley was predeceased by her husband, Neil in 2008 after 52 years of marriage and brother, Dale in 2016.
