June 12, 2022 - Calgary, Alberta

 

It is with a heavy heart that the family of Thambi Kasupathipillai, of Calgary, AB, announces his passing on Sunday, June 12, 2022, at the age of 82 years.

 

Thambi is lovingly remembered by his wife of 43 years Vasunthata "Vasu" Kasupathipillai (nee Chellaturai), daughters Gayathri Kasupathipillai (David Papp) and Aparna Pantuso (Bryan Pantuso); granddaughter Maya Papp, and grandson Rowe Pantuso. He is also remembered by his close in-laws, nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family, and friends in Calgary, as well as abroad. Thambi was predeceased by his parents, brothers, and sister.

 

Thambi was born in Batticaloa, Sri Lanka on July 10, 1939, to Kasupathipillai Kanapathipillai and Sinnamuthu Sinnappu. In 1972, he moved to Hamburg, Germany to pursue his training and work as an automotive technician with Porche. He later earned a brand certification with Volkswagen in Wolfsburg, Germany. In 1976 he immigrated to Canada settling in Calgary, AB where he established his family. Thambi spent most of his career working at Volkswagen.

 

He was a fond member of the Sri Lanka Canada Association in Calgary. He accomplished much throughout his life and was particularly proud of his family and his Sri Lankan heritage and community.

 

Thambi had a passion for tennis, cars, photography, helping others, and connecting with friends and family near and far. He will be most remembered for his quiet but fun nature, strong work ethic, dedication to his family, and the love he shared with those close to him.

 

The family would like to thank Brentwood Care Center and Units 47 and 93 at the Rockyview General Hospital for their comforting care.

 

Those wishing to pay their respects may do so at McInnis & Holloway (Chapel of The Bells, 2720 Centre Street North, Calgary, AB) on Sunday, June 26, 2022, from 1:00 p.m to 2:00 p.m.

 

Funeral Services will be held at McInnis & Holloway (Chapel of The Bells, 2720 Centre Street North, Calgary, AB), on Sunday, June 26, 2022, at 2:00 p.m. with a reception to follow in the Hospitality Centre at the Funeral Home. Family and friends who are unable to attend in person are invited to join Mr Kasupathipillai’s service streamed live (see below) on the day of the service. For those who are unable to view live, a recording of the service will be posted. Condolences, memories, and photos may be shared and viewed here.
