Obituary of Chung Ching Lau 劉忠正

September 9, 1927 – Shanghai, China

June 28, 2022 – Calgary, Alberta

Chung Ching Lau, beloved husband of Yau Lin Lau (nee Lee), of Calgary, AB, passed away on Tuesday, June 28, 2022, at the age of 94 years.

Chung was born in Shanghai, China, on September 9, 1927. He immigrated to Canada in 1988. Chung worked his way up from an apprentice to owning a couple of hair salons, even without any formal education. Chung married Yau Lin in 1957.

Chung had a curious mind and liked new things; he owned a car in the 50’s in Hong Kong, which was uncommon in those day, an 8mm movie camera, early single lens reflex (SLR), karaoke machine, portable DVD player, and many other interesting items. Chung had a beauty salon which had many hair stylists and helpers and was operating in the same location for over 40 years. He had many loyal clients and a lot of them became his best friends. He was a handy man and managed to fix a lot of things in the salon.

When he lived in Calgary, he frequently visited his son and grandkids in the USA. He loved traveling, going to many US states, the Caribbean, South America, Europe, and Asia. Cruising gave him the most pressure because he could be with all his kids and grandkids while enjoying the food and sceneries of all the ports. Chung loved golfing, although he learned this fun game only when he moved to Calgary. Sometimes he went golfing by himself to enjoy the magnificent sceneries of the Rocky and the prairie. Chung enjoyed all oldies and goodies music. He owned many of the DVDs and played them when he was not watching his travel DVDs. Chung traveled on a tour to Osaka, Japan, in 1970; the first World Expo that took place in Asia. When he retired at 60, Chung and Yau travelled to many places in southeast Asia and China.

Besides his loving wife, Chung is survived by his two sons, Vincent, and Raymond; one daughter, Amy; two daughters-in- law, one son-in-law, and six grandchildren. Chung is also survived by his sisters, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Chung was predeceased by his parents, and one brother.
