Obituary of Giovanna Urbani
August 24, 1935 – San Giovanni in Fiore, Italy
June 29, 2022 – Calgary, Alberta
Giovanna Urbani (nee Spadafora) of Calgary, AB, passed away peacefully on Wednesday June 29, 2022, at the age of 86.
Giovanna was born in San Giovanni in Fiore, Cosenza, Italy. After immigrating to Canada in 1954, she worked for McGavin’s and Weston’s Bakeries for over 45 years. She married her husband Vittorio in 1965 and together created a great life. Giovanna will be lovingly remembered for her boundless energy, bravery, strong work ethic, wise counsel, and unwavering devotion to family. As well as for her warm, welcoming, hospitality that always included her delicious cooking and baking.
Giovanna is survived by her daughter Lorraine (Frank Laratta), and her cherished grandsons, Adriano (Megan), and Matteo. She is also survived by her in-laws, Rosetta, Pasquale, Dolia, and Antonio (Maria), as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her loving husband, Carmine Urbani, her parents, Ignazio and Filomena; and siblings, Salvatore, Angelina, and Maria.
Funeral Mass will be held at St. Luke’s Catholic Church (1566 Northmount Drive Northwest, Calgary, AB), on Monday, July 11, 2022, at 11:00 a.m. Graveside Service to follow at Queen’s Park Mausoleum (3219 4 Street Northwest, Calgary, AB) Reception to follow at McInnis and Holloway, Chapel of the Bells (2720 Centre Street North, Calgary, AB).
