Keith Fletcher

Obituary of Keith Douglas Fletcher

August 13, 1946 - New York, New York, USA
July 5, 2022 - Calgary, Alberta

Keith Fletcher (aka The Duh, Fletch, Secret Agent Man, Smartacus, Poor Mr. Fletcher), was the beloved husband of Lolly James. He passed away on Tuesday, July 5, 2022 at the age of 75, after courageously battling a series of medical setbacks. He died as he lived: strong-willed, kind-hearted, and resolute.

Keith was the son of a Welsh father who served as a diplomat to the UN, and an English mother. He left New York as a teen and found his way to his mother’s homeland, where he joined the British Army at the first available opportunity. He was stationed in Germany for most of his stint; there he acquired the skills and strategies that served him well throughout his career in seismic exploration.

After 15 years, Keith left the army and their ways, let his hair and beard grow, donned a dashiki, and headed to Ethiopia to search for oil. He worked for companies around the globe, furthering his lifelong interest in history, and honing his political acumen. He knew his way around this planet. Keith was fearless.

Keith was known for his rather quirky sense of humour and overall irreverence, but he was always a gentleman. He was well read, intelligent, and patient with all. You could be sure of an honest answer if you were brave enough to ask his opinion, or even if you didn’t.

Keith and Lolly were together for many years. Their joys were found in a tightly knit family and a wide social circle. They enjoyed traveling the world, entertaining, and making each other laugh. He also leaves behind Susan, Jonny, Laura, Brenda, Bill, Kostas, Anna, Scott, Logan, and Lexi; he will soon meet up with Dolores, John, Jesse, Craig, and his dear Amber.

Many thanks to all the staff in Unit 29 at the Lougheed Centre for their clear communication, kindness, and compassion, they took an unbearable situation and made it bearable.

Condolences, memories, and photos can be shared and viewed here.

In living memory of Keith Fletcher, a tree will be planted in the Ann & Sandy Cross Conservation Area.
