Condolences
I first met Gramps in 2009, working at the Crowfoot YMCA. After just learning of his passing, I'm flooded with fond memories and the sound of his laugh that would echo in the facility. I always looked forward to Gramps slyly leaning over the front desk on Fridays, handing each of us some kind of treat, as if it was a secret mission. Hearing stories from other members who had been led by Gramps as youth, then coming back to introduce their children to the infamous "Gramps". The impact that he made in the community has left a significant imprint - I'm sure in more ways that I'm even aware. He is truly missed. Rest in peace, Gramps. We love you.
I met Gramps at the old north YMCA, our relationship continued at the Crowfoot YMCA, Ken was an awesome person, he was dedicated to the YMCA mission and I always considered him like a true friend. I just learned of his passing today and I am sad to have missed his last years.
I was always there each winter when he received his Christmas trees, helping him set up the fenced in area, his trailer. Me and Sherry Lumsden often volunteered to help sell trees, helped him with his cans, when ever Ken needed help, we were there to help as it was always a pleasure to be in his company. His legacy will live on forever. Rest in peace Gramps, your friend Gilles Gilbert
Ken was always willing to lend a hand, share a story and listen to whatever us teenagers in his leadership program had to say. Your glasses at the end of your nose may have given you the nickname Gramps, but you were an amazing ball hockey and waterpolo player. Thank you for all the memories .
Thank you Gramps for your influence on so many youth. A teacher and role model who gave so generously of your time.
Gramps was a big part of my youth at the North Y. I treasure the memories I have of the Leaders and Leaders in training programs that he ran. He gave so much of himself to so many young people… we all loved him, and what an example he was. My sincere condolences to his family.
Thanks for the many years at the Y and Y'sMen. Rest in Peace.
Gramps you were a rock star. Thank you for being such a kind and wonderful person. You touched many life's and always in a positive way. Rest in peace and you will be missed.
Janet
Gramps, I will always remember what an amazing role model and leader you were to the youth, including myself that participated in the YMCA Leadership program. I am privilideged to have known you and fondly remember you and the difference you made in my life.

As a Leader of the Leadership in Training Program at the North Family YMCA, you were such an asset to the parents of the Youth that you led. We had full trust in you with our children. The camping at Yamnuska was always a highlight and I know our children benefited with the skills you shared with them and helped develop them into reliable, responsible adults. RIP Ken (Gramps)
Gramps, you touched so many lives through your leadership programs at the YMCA that your legend will live on forever. I have so many amazing memories from my teenage years that you were instrumental in making possible and you were an amazing influence on my life, you will be forever missed.
I had the pleasure and privilege of working for Ken. Ken had the respect and affection of his colleagues and the contractors whose work he monitored. My favorite memory is sitting with him in his office after a morning in the field. He had a bunch of telephone messages (yes, on paper). Ken hauled the waste basket over and went through the messages. He would look at each and either place it on his desk or, saying “He will call back”, toss it in the basket. Most got binned.
Rest In peace Ken. I am honored to have known you.
