Luigia ‘Gigetta’ De Marchi (nee Slongo) of Calgary, AB, passed away on Wednesday, July 13, 2022.
Born on April 22, 1936, in Faller, Sovramente, Italy, Luigia lived a rewarding life filled with opportunity, travel, family, friends, food, and love. Upon meeting the love of her life, Gioachino ‘Jack’ De Marchi (deceased 1989), they planned for a new life in Canada. On July 13, 1957, the two wed in Calgary, the city that would become their home.
Luigia is survived by her loving daughter Vana (Tony Novello); loving son Gianni (Linda De Marchi); loving grandchildren, Sandra (Keith Clausen), Mario, Dario, Dante, and Gemma; as well as two great-grandchildren, Alissa and Logan, all of Calgary. She is also survived by her sister, sisters-in-law, and many nieces and nephews in Fonsazo, Italy and in Uruguay.
Funeral Services will be held at McInnis & Holloway (Chapel of The Bells, 2720 Centre Street North, Calgary, AB), on Tuesday, August 9, 2022, at 10:00 a.m. with a reception to follow in the Hospitality Centre at the Funeral Home. Family and friends are invited to attend a Graveside Service at Queen’s Park Cemetery following the reception. Condolences, memories, and photos may be shared and viewed here.
