Obituary of Matthew Jace Colin Rider
February 13, 1994 – Calgary, Alberta
July 16, 2022 – Morley, Alberta
The family of our beloved son, brother, uncle, cousin, nephew, grandson, and great-grandson, Matthew “Tunner” Ryder, announce his sudden passing on Saturday, July 16, 2022.
Tunner was a proud father to his daughter Neveah and son Phoenix. He was a cherished son to his mother Reneta Ryder and father Matthew Simpson, big brother to his siblings Tamara Wildman and Marcus Rider, nephew to his aunt Verlyna, and cousin to Jaelyn, Greg, Quinton, and Jo-bean.
Tunner was a gentle, humble, and caring young man who helped his mother, aunt Speedy, and “grandma” Gloria. He was also a man of his word and stayed true to his extended family and relatives (too many to mention) as well as the friends he had made throughout his short but precious life.
Tunner expressed his personal journey in life through his many pages of writing and his drawings and sketches, which he shared with those close to him. Tunner had a knack for cheering people up through his sense of humor and witty personality. He also enjoyed going for walks and witnessing the abundance of beautiful sunrises, sunsets, and moonlit nights. He loved attending Pow-Wow events, keeping up with the latest celebrity news and singing his favorite songs out loud, but he especially loved celebrating the birthdays of his dear children, his nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Tunner had a heart bigger than the ocean and he truly loved his family and friends, especially his mother and father.
Tunner is survived by his daughter Neveah and his son Phoenix, his mother Reneta, father Matthew Sr., sister Tamara and his little brother Marcus. Tunner is also survived by his aunt Verlyna (Speedy), cousins Jaelyn, Gregory, Quinton, Jolene; maternal grandmothers Gloria, Dianne, Patsy, and Delphine; great-grandmothers Gwyneth and Lavina; his paternal grandparents Angeline, Preston (Shelley), Randall, Belinda, Benita (Roberts), and Maureen, great-grandmothers Catherine Powderface, Marie Bull Bear and Marlene Onespot; his great-grandfather Dean Simeon and Gerald (Jenny) Clarke, as well as many extended relatives in the Ryder, Rider, Powderface, Labelle, Holloway, and Simpson families, and his extended family in Sarcee and Fort Chip. We apologize if we have missed anyone.
Tunner was predeceased by his uncles Jason and Jeremy, his grandmother Lorraine Rider, grandfather Everett Powderface and great-grandparents Rita Rider and Johnny Labelle.
