Obituary of Karen Peris
December 18, 1970 – St. John’s, Newfoundland
July 22, 2022 – Calgary, Alberta
Karen Peris (nee Noel), beloved mother to Julian and Jarrett and partner of Fernando, of Calgary, AB, passed away suddenly on Friday, July 22, 2022, at the age of 51 years.
Karen was born in St. John’s, NL, and lived in Conception Bay South prior to moving to Mount Pearl, where she graduated from Mount Pearl Senior High in 1988. She moved to Calgary, AB, that same year to start a career in banking.
After several years in the banking industry, she worked with Fernando at Topline Printing, as well as two other local businesses as a bookkeeper. Karen was pursuing her Bachelor of Business Administration from the Southern Alberta Institute of Technology when she passed. Due to graduate in August 2022, she looked forward to fulfilling a lifelong goal of attaining a Bachelor’s of Commerce degree.
Karen married Fernando in 2001 and raised two sons, Julian and Jarrett, in whom she took exceptional pride. Additionally, she became a very good friend and mentor to Fernando’s three children from his previous marriage; Michelle, Samantha, and Chris, and was loved in return.
Karen’s infectious smile and laughter were most prevalent when seen line dancing, travelling, hosting social gatherings, and spending time with her friends and family. She always went above and beyond to make everyone around her laugh and enjoy themselves to the fullest. Her talent to make everyone around her feel special was unsurpassed.
Karen was a co-creator of the famous “Mount Pearl Curl” and wore it with pride for several years before trading in her hairspray for cowgirl boots and line dancing.
Karen loved animals. The SPCA had a special place in her heart and her many pets over the years could be considered amongst the most fortunate to have found a home within her family.
She will be most remembered for her kindness, humour, love of friends and family, and her work ethic. Her infectious laugh will be sorely missed. Karen strived every day to make the world a better place for her co-workers, her fellow students, her family, her friends, and anyone else lucky enough to know her. She was truly the glue that held many relationships together across a wide array of familial and social groups.
Survived by her loving friend and partner Fernando, Karen is also survived by her sons, Julian, and Jarrett of Calgary; parents, Violet and David Noel of Calgary, AB; three brothers, Wade of Woodstock, NB, Rodney and wife Sharon of Appleton, NL, and Stephen and wife Stephanie of Ottawa, ON; niece and nephews, Hannah, David, and Declan; step-children, Michelle and husband Keith of Toronto, ON, Samantha and husband Evan of Toronto, ON, and Chris and wife Jennifer of Phoenix, AZ; and step-grandchildren, Caden, Hudson, Carter, Sadie, Laine, Ella, and Jack. Karen is also survived by a very large circle of aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.
