Obituary of Sydney (Syd) Arthur Holberton

Sydney Holberton, the youngest son of Elias and Annie Holberton, passed away on Saturday, July 30, 2022, at the age of 93 years in Calgary, AB. Syd was predeceased by his beloved wife, Muriel Holberton by just over two months.

Syd was born in Lethbridge, AB on January 3, 1929. As a young man he strove to improve his life and help those around him. He met Muriel after she moved to Lethbridge to be close to her brother and family. They married on April 25,1953.

Syd was an entrepreneur with three separate careers; as a partner in a plumbing business in Lethbridge; then as a manager of an insurance branch in Calgary and finally as a partner in Beltone Hearing Aids. Syd and Muriel worked in the hearing aid business for 25 years until their retirement.

Syd was an active member of Woodcliff United Church for 56 years. His passions included golf, bridge and travelling.  He was a longtime member of the North Hill Lions club.

He is survived by his sister Edna Robson; his children, Jim (Kellie), Ron (Mary Jane) and Gwen Wright; four grandchildren, Daniel Holberton, Candice (Mike) McGinnis, Pamela (Denys) Grombacher, and Stuart Wright; and two great-grandchildren, Ida and Ned Grombacher; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Syd was predeceased by his beloved wife, Muriel; and his two brothers, Ernest and Fred Holberton.
