Obituary of Elizabeth Klatzel

February 2, 1941 - Lacombe, Alberta

July 30, 2022 - Calgary, Alberta

It is with deep sadness that the family announce the passing of their beautiful mother and friend, Elizabeth Klatzel on Saturday, July 30, 2022 at the age of 81 years.

Liz was born on February 2, 1941 in Lacombe, AB. Hers was a life of happy times, but also significant heartbreaks. Most notably, the untimely death of her husband, Joe Klatzel in 1978, as well as the seven-year battle with Dementia. Yet, as is typical of Liz, she handled most of life's troubles with style and grace.

Liz is survived by her three children, Randy Klatzel, Jeff Klatzel (Wendy Kung), Kari (Paul) Chatten, daughter-in-law, Diane (Rick) Power; her siblings, Jan (John) McDermott, and Larry (Gail) Badry, sister-in-law, Eleanor Badry; her grandchildren, Joseph (Jessica) Klatzel, Connie Klatzel (Dhan Gilmour), Cassidy Chatten, Logan Chatten; and great granddaughter, Ayla Klatzel. Liz was predeceased by her aforementioned husband, Joe Klatzel, parents Florence and Edmund Badry, brother Les Badry, as well as twin brothers Terry and Teddy. Liz was a part of an extensive loving family encompassing numerous in-laws, nieces and nephews.

Liz was a very loving and dedicated mother who demonstrated incredible strength and integrity after losing the love of her life when she was only 37 years old. She continued to do her best raising and supporting her three children on her own. Some activities that brought Liz joy included sewing, knitting, cooking, and especially caring for her grandchildren. She was actively involved in her Church, St. Anthony's parish, serving Communion at weekly Mass as well as other volunteer roles. Liz spent the better part of her career at the Calgary Firefighter's Credit Union as a loan's officer before retiring around 60 years of age. She will be remembered for her love of music, dancing, faith, and family.

Her children would like to express much gratitude to the staff at AgeCare in Seton and Revera long term care facility in McKenzie Towne for their compassion and care over the last four years, especially in her final days.

Relatives and friends are invited to join in celebrating Liz on Friday, August 19, 2022, at St. Anthony's Catholic Church (5340 - 4 Street S.W.) at 1:00 p.m. Reception to follow in the parish hall. Condolences, memories, and photos can also be shared and viewed here.

If friends so desire, in lieu of flowers, you may consider a donation directly to Dementia Connections, 100, 1900 – 11th Street S.E, Calgary, AB T2G 3G2, Telephone: (403) 240-9055. or to a Canadian Dementia charity of your choice. This horrific illness causes tragic memory loss and agonizing confusion, thus dismantling the very essence of those effected. While the family feels tremendous relief that their mom’s suffering is over, there are many people still struggling with this illness.

In living memory of Elizabeth Klatzel, a tree will be planted in the Ann & Sandy Cross Conservation Area by McInnis & Holloway Funeral Homes, Park Memorial, 5008 Elbow Drive SW, Calgary, AB T2S 2L5, Telephone: 403-243-8200.
