Obituary of William Samuel Murray

March 17, 1934 – Lloydminster, Alberta

August 2, 2022 – Calgary, Alberta

 

William “Bill” Murray passed away on Tuesday, August 2, 2022, at the age of 88 years, with family by his side.

 

Bill was born in Lloydminster, Alberta and spent 30 years in the military, he was a member of Lord Strathcona’s Horse Royal Canadians Ceremonial Mounted Troop. Bill was delighted to be a participant in the Calgary Stampede and enjoyed working at Heritage Park. Bill loved horseback riding, cattle penning with his brothers, hunting with his sons and friends, coaching, playing baseball and hockey, and camping with family and friends where he was guaranteed to laugh at a good joke or the silly antics of his grandchildren, family, and friends. 

 

He leaves behind his wife of 61 years Velma (nee Meister; his children Dwight (Ada), David (Cathy), Donna (Kevin), and Dwayne (Carolynn); former daughter-in-law Leah and sister-in-law Marion; his siblings Harvey (Shirley) and Edie (Gerald); brother-in-law Eric; his grandchildren Amanda (Devin), Adam (Halee), Autumn (Travis), Breanne, Alyssa, Zachary, Madison, and Olivia; and great-grandchildren Seth, Mason, and Landen; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He will be sadly missed and will always hold a place in our hearts.

 

Bill was predeceased by his parents, Benjamin and Frances Murray; his brother Norman Murray; his sisters Irene (Gordon) Johnson and Fern Larsen; and brother-in-law Ray Henne.  

 

A Celebration of Bill’s life will be held at Royal Canadian Legion (9202 Horton Rd SW, Calgary, AB) on Friday August 19, 2022, at 1:30 pm. Condolences, memories, and photos can also be shared and viewed here.
