Obituary of Patricia LeClair

September 30, 1929 - Glace Bay, Nova Scotia

August 11, 2022 - Calgary, Alberta

Pat LeClair, beloved mother and grandmother, passed away in the early morning hours of Thursday, August 11, 2022 at the age of 92.

Pat was born on September 30, 1929 in Glace Bay, N.S. to Anne (McPhee) and Myles Gregory Tompkins, the second youngest of seven siblings. Pat was a graduate of St. Francis Xavier University. In 1956, Pat married John, her partner in life for the next 59 years. They moved across the country and made their home in Calgary. They were committed to each other and their family. Pat worked with the Calgary Catholic School Division as a secretary. Upon retirement she enjoyed golfing and watching her grandchildren grow. John passed away in 2014 and Pat missed him every day.

Pat will be remembered for her amazing ability to connect with those she met. She loved to engage with people and was genuinely interested in their stories.  She was a terrific conversationalist with a wonderful sense of humour and an empathetic spirit. Pat’s faith was very important to her; prayer and the Rosary sustained her. Pat’s love for her family was deep and abiding, she was deeply loved in return.

Pat is lovingly remembered by her children, Gregory, Patrice (Tom), Ann (Kelly), Colin (Brenda); grandchildren, Alexandra (Wayne), Stephanie, Kathryn (Matthew), Taylor; great-grandchildren, August and Remy, and much loved sisters, Clare and Mary.

The world will be a different place without Pat’s advice, laughter, stories and strong opinions.  We are forever grateful for having had her in our lives and will miss her profoundly.

Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Bonaventure Catholic Church (1600 Acadia Drive S.E.) on Thursday, August 18, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. Reception to follow at the Church. Condolences, memories, and photos may be shared and viewed here.

If friends so desire, memorial tributes may be made directly to the Society of Saint Vincent de Paul, St. Bonaventure Church, Calgary in Pat’s name would be appreciated.

The family is very grateful for the care and support Pat received at Lake Bonavista Retirement Village during her time there. As well, we appreciate the compassionate medical support she received at the Foothills Medical Centre.
