Obituary of Caterina Giancarlo

December 29, 1926 – Navelli, L’Aquila, Italy

August 9, 2022 – Langley, British Columbia

Amelia “Caterina” Giancarlo (nee Alterio), of Calgary, AB, passed away on Tuesday, August 9, 2022, at the age of 95 years.

Caterina was born in Navelli, L’Aquila, Italy on December 29, 1926.

She immigrated to Calgary, Alberta, Canada in 1953 to marry Giovanni “John” Giancarlo.

Caterina’s passion was family and cooking. She loved using the fresh produce from her garden to create delicious meals to share with her loved ones. She will be most remembered for her strength of will and devotion to her family. For the last 3 years of her life, Caterina was able to enjoy living with her daughter and household in Langley, BC.

Caterina is survived by her daughter, Elsie Mackinnon from Langley, British Columbia; son, Lou (Kristen Kallstrom) from Calgary, Alberta; and four grandchildren, Angela Durakovic (Aaron) and Heather Mackinnon from Langley, B.C., and Devon and Carmen Giancarlo and their mother, Christine Giancarlo, from Calgary; and one great-grandson, Chase Durakovic, from Langley, B.C.

Caterina was predeceased by her husband, John, her sisters, Onesta and Concetta, her brother, Riziero, her parents, Luigi and Maria Dominica Alterio and her son-in-law, Bruce Mackinnon.

Funeral Services will be held at McInnis & Holloway (Chapel of the Bells, 2720 Centre Street North, Calgary, AB), on Wednesday, August 24^th, 2022, at 10:00 a.m. Graveside Service to follow at Queens Park Cemetery.
