Obituary of Jennie Angel Gabel

January 14, 1924 - Carbonear, Newfoundland

August 15, 2022 - Calgary, Alberta

Jennie Angel Gabel (nee Pretty) of Calgary, AB passed away peacefully on Monday, August 15, 2022, at the age of 98 years.

Jennie was born in Carbonear, NL on January 14, 1924. Jennie met Laurence (Larry) during World War II, as Larry was enlisted in the Navy and stationed in St. John's, NL. In 1945, Jennie and Larry were united in marriage at the Wesley United Church in St. John's, NL. Shortly following their marriage, Jennie immigrated to Canada where the young couple briefly settled in Didsbury, AB, which was Larry's hometown. Then, in 1946, Jennie and Larry moved to Calgary and in 1958, they bought their first home in the Town of Bowness. Jennie was an active member in the community of Bowness where she had made many friends, particularly in the Foothills United Church and the Bowness Seniors Club. She continued her activities and social outings well into her 90’s.

Jennie was predeceased by her loving husband Larry, sister Olive and brother Fred. Jennie is survived by her sons, Harry, Calvin (Linda), David (Betty), and John (Elaine); seven grandchildren, Darrin (Tina), Brad (Melanie), Calynda (John), Cody, Jesse, Tanya (Christian), and Erin (Dylan); and eight great-grandchildren, Logan, Ryan, Samantha, Bretton, Aidan, John Logan, Charlotte, and Layla; and four great-great-grandchildren, Bentley, Ava, Bella, and Lulu; as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins, especially her niece, Patti Stiles with whom she had a special relationship.

Our beautiful mother, wonderful grandmother, loving, great and great-great-grandmother and a special friend to all who knew her, has gone to heaven to be with her saviour, her family, and friends. She lived every day of her happy and wonderful life as though there was no tomorrow and was as healthy as anyone could be - right to the very end!

Some thoughts from Jennie to share with you:

You can shed tears that I am gone, or you can smile because I lived and loved.

You can remember me only that I am gone, or you can cherish my memory and let go and live on.

Life you owe me nothing, life we are at peace, until we meet again!
