Obituary of Daniel Osborne Woods

May 23, 1964– Kindersley, Saskatchewan

August 18, 2022 – Calgary, Alberta

Dan Woods was a caring husband, father, son, brother, uncle, nephew, cousin, and friend, passed away on Thursday, August 18, 2022 at the age of 58 surrounded by his family.

Dan was born in Kindersley, SK, on May 23, 1964.  He grew up in Quebec and Ontario.  He graduated from the University of Western Ontario with a degree in Computer Science. Dan married Lori (nee Bale) in 1994 and they had three children.

He loved animals and has volunteered with many organizations over the years: AARCS, Calgary Humane Society, Alberta Spay Neuter Task Force (now known as Canadian Animal Task Force) and Pawsitive Match. He had many animals including: gerbils, a hamster, a parakeet, dogs, ferrets, a rabbit and recently he fell in love with a little cat, which surprised us all. Dan fostered over 500 puppies for different organizations and really enjoyed picking different themed names for each litter.

He enjoyed movies and loved playing cards at family events. He also took interest in 3D printing and started an Etsy business (Aboot3D) selling various items he printed. Dan took pride in the work he did to help animals and he enjoyed 3D printing things to give as gifts to family and friends. Dan also volunteered for his girls’ school field trips as they grew up and did many Casinos for their schools and other organizations.

Dan is survived by his wife Lori; daughters Courtney (Nick), Kaylee (Kale), Kristy, his dad Glenn, his brother Rich (Patty), his sister-in-law Cheryl (Jerry) Macosky, his brother-in-law Kevin (Dorothy) Bale, his mother-in-law Kathy Bale; nieces and nephews, Megan Macosky, Justin Macosky, Cory Woods, Justine Woods, Lauren Bale, Zachary Bale, Leander Steyn; and many aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends. He is also survived by his dog Lexi and his children’s animals: Gemini, Parker and Freddy. Dan was predeceased by his mom Solange and his grandparents.

A Celebration of Dan’s Life will be held at Temple Community Centre (167 Templegreen Rd. NE, Calgary, AB, T1Y 6G3) on Thursday August 25, 2022 from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. A light lunch will be served. Please dress casually.
