Obituary of Ida Schmidt
March 18, 1936 – Rakacaszend, Hungary
August 19, 2022 - Calgary, Alberta
Ida Schmidt (nee Gregoczki) of Calgary passed away on Friday August 19, 2022 at the age of 86. She immigrated to Canada from Hungary in 1956 with her husband Alexander, settling in Calgary.
Mom loved spending time in the garden, creating beautiful flower arrangements, cooking authentic Hungarian dishes and crocheting. In her younger years many hours were spent canning, baking and assisting her husband in the many projects he undertook. Her and dad bought a piece of property west of Bowden where they enjoyed many weekends with family and friends.
She is survived by her sons, Alex (Shelley), and John; grandchildren, John Jr. (Lauren), Crystal (Joel) Klassen, Jeffrey (Janelle), Jesse (Amanda), and Tana; great-grandchildren Emma, Taylor, Elias, Lily, Skylar, and Nolan. She was predeceased by her husband Alexander in August 1996.
At mom’s request a small private service will be held. Condolences, memories, and photos can also be shared and viewed here.
The family would like to thank all the staff of Unit 72 at Rockyview General Hospital for their efforts in keeping mom as comfortable as possible in her final days.
