Obituary of Stella Brisbin

Stella Mae Brisbin (nee Harkness) of Calgary, Alberta passed away on Friday, August 19, 2022, at the age of 93.

Stella was born in Dauphin, Manitoba on October 31, 1928, graduated from Kelvin High School in Winnipeg, Manitoba and then worked as a secretary for “Hudson’s Bay Oil and Gas”.

She met Ted, her husband of 73 years, at the wedding of a mutual friend and soon the two of them were also joined in marriage. The births of three daughters followed, as Stella and Ted moved from Winnipeg to Yorkton and Rosetown, Saskatchewan and finally Calgary. She quickly made friends by joining the Bowfort Chapter of the “Imperial Order Daughters of the Empire” (IODE) and curling with Ted at the Calgary Winter Club. In later, more prosperous years, Stella and Ted were able to travel widely and eventually spend their winters in Arizona where Stella discovered a talent for painting ceramics. She was an exquisite seamstress, a lover of dogs, renowned for her Christmas baking and a voracious reader.

Stella was an avid golfer with two holes-in-one to her credit.  Over the years, she and Ted were members of the “Calgary Elks Golf Club”, “Silver Springs Golf & Country Club”, “Lynx Ridge Golf Club” and the “Sun City Golf & Country Club” in Sun City, Arizona.

Stella is survived by her three daughters, Leslie (Al) Stuart, Debbie (Mike) Gavan and Kim (Ron) Lentz, four grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and her sister, Shirley Strang of Winnipeg, Manitoba.  Her husband, Ted, passed away in April of this year. They are now together again.

The family would like to extend special thanks to the staff at “South Health Campus” for their kind and caring support during Stella’s final days.
