Obituary of Dan Boucher
June 7, 1931 – Cold Lake, Alberta
August 23, 2022 - Calgary, Alberta
Dan Boucher of Cochrane, AB, passed away on Tuesday, August 23, 2022, at the age of 91 years.
Born at Cold Lake, AB, on June 7, 1931, the youngest of four children, Dan came as a youth to the Jumping Pound and Bragg Creek area. He remained here for the rest of his life, becoming a capable and respected "right hand man" for many within the community. He was proficient in all aspects of ranch work, general construction, machinery operation, horsemanship and was noted for his knotting, braiding and rope creations. Dan had a keen eye, excellent memory, and was good with numbers despite having little opportunity for formal schooling.
Ranching families of note that he worked for included Mickles (Bert and Lennie), Batemans, Robinsons, Gardners, and Fullertons, to name a few. Throughout the years his contribution to the activities around the Trading Post was invaluable. In later years, when Fullerton Post & Pole were running their timber operation, Dan worked on the peeler for Jim Fullerton and Alec Dahrouge. His last eight years were spent at the Big Hill Lodge in Cochrane.
Dan remained single all his life, but invariably became part of the families he worked for. He is survived by many nieces, nephews, and cousins throughout Alberta and Saskatchewan, not surprisingly he is also survived by his acquired surrogate grandchildren and great-grandchildren, namely the Fullertons and Teghtmeyers. He enthusiastically followed the lives of all to the end. Dan was predeceased by his parents, Marie (nee Waskawitch) and James Boucher; and siblings, Christine, Albert, and Sara.
A Celebration of Dan’s Life will be held at the Historic Bragg Creek Round Hall (52 Bracken Road, Bragg Creek, AB), on Sunday, September 25, 2022, at 2:00 p.m. Reception to follow at the Hall. The family invites friends and family to share their memories of Dan. (Due to the aftermath of berm construction, parking may be tight, if convenient please consider carpooling). Condolences, memories, and photos may be shared and viewed here.
Thank you to Sandra and the staff at Big Hill Lodge in Cochrane for making Dan comfortable for the last eight years and having such remarkable Covid Christmases! Also thank you to the people who drove Dan to his appointments, which at times seemed endless. We are so grateful for the care and compassion from Dr. Cunning and Julie at the Bragg Creek Clinic. It was above and beyond anything we could have hoped for. Thank you so very much.
In living memory of Dan Boucher, a tree will be planted in the Ann & Sandy Cross Conservation Area by McInnis & Holloway Funeral Homes, Cochrane, 369 Railway Street, Cochrane, AB T4C 2E2, Telephone: 403-932-4740.
