Obituary of Suzanne Louise Cooke

April 2, 1940 – Vancouver, British Columbia

September 4, 2022 – Calgary, Alberta

Suzanne (Sue) Cooke of Calgary, AB, passed away on Sunday, September 4, 2022 at the age of 82 years.

Sue was born in Vancouver and grew up in Montreal. She moved to Calgary in 1976 with her family.

Sue had a passion for lifelong learning. She completed her Diploma in Education at MacDonald College of McGill University in 1959, graduated from Concordia University (Loyola Faculty of Arts and Science) with a Bachelor of Arts in 1976 and graduated with a Master of Education specializing in Developmental Psychology from The University of Calgary in 1992. Sue was a Learning Resource Teacher with the Calgary Board of Education for many years where she took great pride in her position where she was able to fulfill her deep passion teaching children how to read.

Suzanne was a woman of intellect and had many passions and interests. She loved music of all genres, could play the piano by ear (which her children and grandchildren found fascinating), gardening, cooking, reading, and playing cards to name a few. She loved to entertain and host beautiful dinners for her friends and family. Nana had the best sleepovers for her grandchildren. They would play games, read (of course) and take trips to the parks, library, and the dollar store.

Sue will be dearly missed by her daughter Janet Velestuk (Garth) and her sons, Steven, David (Kara Koch), and Brian (Danielle Trudel). Nana was dearly loved and cherished by her eight grandchildren, five step-grandchildren, one great-grandchild and three step-great-grandchildren. Suzanne is also survived by her sisters, Marnie Giguere (Ralph) and Linda Stanley (Tom); and brother Tom Rood (Marj), as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Suzanne was predeceased by her mother and father, Tod and Lindy Rood; a sister Mary Allard, and one step-grandchild Anthony Fedorio.

A private family Celebration of Life will be held for Suzanne. Condolences, memories, and photos can also be shared and viewed here.
