Obituary of Melissa Lori Spencer

August 6, 1991 – Calgary, Alberta

September 6, 2022 - Calgary, Alberta

Melissa Spencer of Calgary, AB, passed away on Tuesday, September 6, 2022, at the age of 31 years.

A beautiful little spark that lit up every room and heart she entered. From the Spencer, Crabbe, Sloan, and Saunders families sprang this passionate, fearless adventurer with a heart four times as big as she was.

Her family was the most important thing in her world. She was a dedicated dog-mom to her beloved Freddy and always took such good care of him. Lissy was also a devoted daughter to Sheila (Richard) and William (Jackie), sister to Jessica, Brittany, Ashlee, Amber, Alicia, Nick, Samantha, Daniel, Cale, and Colton, and a loving granddaughter to Sue, Robert (Kathleen 2010), Mike (Lisl 2020), Bill, Arlie and Alf.

Lissy earned her Early Childcare Diploma at Mount Royal University and went on to work at Go Dental as an Office Ambassador, where she touched so many lives. Recently, after a move to her “forever town” of High River, she started working at the Boys and Girls Club Daycare, fulfilling her lifelong dream of working with children. You should have seen her beaming with pride to hear all the little children calling her “Miss Lissy!” She also selflessly gave her heart and time to many organizations such as Rocky Mountain Adaptive Sports, Push to Open Nature Society, Big Rock Singers, Father Lacombe Care Centre, and Inclusion Alberta.

Armed with her fabulous smile, sense of adventure and ambitious nature, she was excited to explore her new hometown of High River, going for walks with Freddy around Sunshine Lake, walking to the store, slurpee runs, and of course Pie Sunday. She especially loved the High River Library and walks along the river to throw stones and helping those around her wherever she could.

Lissy made everyone she met feel loved and welcome. There was nothing more special to her than to spend time with those she held close. She loved family dinners, playing board games, road trip adventures, spending time in nature, crafting, singing, and cuddles.  Music was also very important to her and she could often be found with the tunes cranked, rocking out to her best friend’s latest hit song (We love you Forest). She loved her friends and family fiercely and will forever be remembered by all who knew and loved her.

We would like to thank the Doctors, Nurses, and staff at the High River hospital, STARS Air Ambulance, and Foothills Medical Centre ICU, for all the love, expertise, and care for our beautiful Lissy. Life is fragile, hug those you love, and never let the words in your heart be left unspoken.

A tribute to Lissy will be held on Saturday, October 8, 2022, from 1:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m. at the Sirocco Golf Club (210178 64 St W, Calgary, AB, T1S 5G5).  Condolences, memories, and photos may be shared and viewed here.
