Obituary of Elizabeth Ann Sorensen (nee Hailes)

May 21, 1941 - Calcutta, India

September 22, 2022 - Calgary, Alberta

Elizabeth Sorensen of Calgary, AB, passed away on Thursday, September 22, 2022 at the age of 81 years.

Elizabeth was born in Calcutta, India on May 21, 1941, she moved to Surrey Hersham, England in 1960, and immigrated to Canada in 1975. She married Ronald Sorensen in 1997. Elizabeth accomplished much through her life and was particularly proud of, her own nursing homes, one in St. Stephen NB, and the second one in Gleichen, AB.

Mum, grandma, nanny, and friend are just a few of the names given to Elizabeth in her lifetime. She was a woman who was like the seasons, ever-changing, beautiful, bold, and inspiring. Elizabeth was a woman who was not afraid to face the challenges that life presented her, she approached the world with strength and resilience. During Elizabeths life she was a mother to five children, a wife, a friend, a businesswoman, a risk taker, a grandma, and a great-grandma. We all carry a little bit of Elizabeth inside each of us; she taught us how to unapologetically be ourselves, that with some hard work anything was possible, to be strong in the face of challenges, to speak our minds even if it got us in trouble, to be independent, to take a risk, not to take life so serious, to laugh, and how to love one another despite the ups and downs. When we remember Elizabeth, we remember large family dinners, summer days on the deck with a hot cuppa and a slice of cake, random visits with all the gossip or as we would say “talking some BS”, people watching in every public space, her true crime shows, an ice cap and a donut on a random day, her two dogs that would always bark when we visited, and how she brought the family together despite its hardships.

She will always be remembered for her unique personality that always brought a smile to our faces and laughter that would hurt your stomach and make your eyes water.

Mum, grandma, nanny, and friend, you will be forever missed, and your memory will always be cherished throughout the years. We love you.

Elizabeth is survived by her sons, Derek LaTouche (Tammi), Colin LaTouche (Darlene), David LaTouche, and Andrew LaTouche; and her daughter, Rosemary Macneill (David) who all reside in Calgary, AB. Elizabeth is also survived by her fifteen grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren. Elizabeth was predeceased by spouse, Ronald Sorensen, her grandson, Justin, and brothers, Malcolm and Peter.
