Bryn Shilliday

Obituary of Bryn Stewart Shilliday

January 27, 1957 -  October 8, 2022

After a lifetime of outdoor adventures, golf games, friendships, and family, and following a courageous battle with lung disease and cancer, Bryn passed away peacefully with his family at his side on Saturday, October 8, 2022 at the age of 65 years.

Bryn is survived and will be lovingly remembered by his daughters, Andria and Brenna (Bradley); mother, Hilda Shilliday; sister, Mary Catherine (Joedy); brother, Erin (Maura); his beautiful grandchildren, Tristan, Jonah, Jordyn, and Shayla Bryn; nieces, Hannah (Ellis) and Georgia (Eric); and his nephew, Henry. He joins the loving embrace of his father Errol Shilliday, infant son Marshal Bryn and faithful pup Pickles. He also leaves many friends and neighbours who over the years enjoyed his stories, recipes, or a round of golf, and many cousins across Canada.

Bryn was an avid fisher, fantastic golfer, and enjoyed careers in seismic survey, food creation and golf. His favourite activities included caddying at local tournaments and catching “the big one”, as well as time spent with family and teaching his grandkids to fish. He was a lifelong learner and could keep an audience entertained with countless stories learned from books, documentaries, and his favourite history, science, or cooking shows.

Bryn was so grateful for the gift of life through BC Solid Organ Transplant Program and the amazing care from his Lung Transplant Team at VGH and the Cancer team at VGH, Royal Jubilee and Campbell River Hospital as well as the Home Care Team in Campbell River. Care during his final days from the kind, professional staff at Foothills Hospital meant the world to him and his family. Gratitude to the many health care staff in all departments at various hospitals who provided him such compassionate and respectful care especially during these very stressful pandemic times.

With death comes everlasting life and healing from his earthly pain. “Go Rest High on That Mountain” now, dear son, brother, father.

A Celebration of Bryn’s Life will be held in Campbell River, details to follow at a later date. Condolences, memories, and photos can also be shared and viewed here.

If friends so desired, a gift can be directed to the Hospital Foundation or Organ Transplant programs in your community. Please consider becoming an organ donor.

In living memory of Bryn Shilliday, a tree will be planted in the Ann & Sandy Cross Conservation Area by McInnis & Holloway Funeral Homes, Park Memorial, 5008 Elbow Drive SW, Calgary, AB T2S 2L5, Telephone: 403-243-8200.
