Obituary of James (Jim) Richard Stinson

James (Jim) Richard Stinson, beloved husband of Helen Stinson of Calgary passed away peacefully at home on Monday, October 10, 2022, at the age of 93.  

Jim was born in McCord, Saskatchewan on May 30, 1929.  After passing through the tough times of the Dirty 30’s in southern Saskatchewan, Jim and Helen met in Regina, were married there in 1953 and made Regina their home until 1960, when the young family was transferred to Calgary with BA Oil (later Gulf Oil).  Jim retired in 1982 after 34 years with the company. 

Jim loved puttering around his house and going camping with the family, in the nearby Rocky Mountains.  He was a lifelong fan of the Saskatchewan Roughriders, much to the amusement of his Calgary neighbours. Jim and Helen spent 22 seasons giving the Alberta winter a pass, by going to Arizona for five months of each year.  

Jim will be remembered for his gentle kindness and great sense of humour; he always had some joke or funny quip for anyone he met.  Jim loved animals and enjoyed meeting every dog that came his way.  

Jim and Helen were Charter Members of the Lutheran Church of the Cross and started attending the original church in 1960.  

Besides his loving wife, Jim will be sadly missed by his sons, Doug (Jean) and Tom (Bev); his five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and his many nieces and nephews.  The family expresses their deep appreciation to Dr Mary-Ellen Sturgeon and the care workers from We Care services, for their kind and compassionate assistance during Jim’s final months.  The family also wishes to thank all the friends and neighbours, who have helped Jim and Helen over the years and for their kind thoughts during the past few difficult days and weeks.  

Relatives and friends are invited to a brief Prayers Service at Lutheran Church of the Cross (10620 Elbow Drive SW, Calgary, AB) on Tuesday, October 25, 2022, at 1:00 p.m.
