October 12, 2022 – Calgary, Alberta

Robert “Bob” Harrigan, beloved husband of Grace Harrigan (nee Weiss), of Calgary, AB, passed away on Wednesday, October 12, 2022, at the age of eighty-one.

Bob was born to Vincent and Isobel, on November 13th, 1940. He grew up in Calgary, went to St. Mary’s Boy’s School and then to Mount Royal College before heading to the University of Oklahoma, where, in 1963, he graduated with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Petroleum Engineering.

In 1965, Bob married the love of his life, Grace. Within a few years Bob and Grace created a family of five; oldest son Mike, daughter Sharon (Rene) Girard, and youngest son Wes.

Bob spent twenty years as a manager with Gulf Canada. For part of which time, he oversaw heavy oil pilot projects near Cold Lake, AB. His second career focussed on entrepreneurial endeavours, including a store he owned and managed in the Montgomery neighbourhood of Calgary.

Bob was a diehard Calgary Stampeders and Calgary Flames fan. He enjoyed golfing, a good party, and holiday road trips! Bob was always making people laugh.

Bob loved Jesus with all his heart and was committed to the Lord. He personified his favourite Bible verse Luke 10:27:

“Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind; and thy neighbour as thy self.”

Bob will be most remembered for his generosity, and acceptance of his “neighbour”.

Along with his wife, sons, and daughter, Bob is survived by his three grandchildren, Braden, Travis, and Jesse Girard, of Calgary. Bob greatly loved and was loved greatly by his children and grandchildren. He will be enormously missed.

Bob is also survived by his younger brother Paul (Eva) Harrigan of Calgary and numerous nieces and nephews, cousins, and friends. He was predeceased by his parents and his older brother Bill (Joan).

In living memory of Robert Harrigan, a tree will be planted in the Ann & Sandy Cross Conservation Area by McInnis & Holloway Funeral Homes, Deerfoot South, 12281 – 40th Street SE, Calgary, AB T2Z 4E6, Telephone: 403-203-0525.
