Condolences
Dear Lachlan,
I want to express my deepest sympathies to you and your family. I just heard of your Dad's passing, then your Mom's, from our mutual friend Jim. I just lost my Dad in September, suddenly after a surgery gone wrong. So you are not alone in your grief. Losing a parent is hard. Please take care.

Dear Bobbie and the Currie extended family.
A few hours ago I received a telephone call from Eileen (Kelly) Ladd in Calgary informing me of the passing of "cousin" John Hugh. Bobbie, you and Eileen (born Middleton, in the Valley) met while at University in Halifax a FEW years ago. Eileen and I have maintained contact ever since our Keltic Lodge, Ingonish Beach, NS days. I had been in genealogical contact with John Hugh these last few years on our common CURRIE crown that originated in South Uist (Island in Outer Hebrides, Scotland) ca 1772.
All this to say that I always looked forward to my telephone conversations with John about the Curries. I, too, was born in Glace Bay (1936, my Mom is Carmella Currie, born 1907 at Port Morien, CB) and in order to escape death in the coal mines, I enrolled in the RCAF in 1955 and stayed a member for 35 years. Like the Caper said: "It was the first real job I ever had, so I kept it." Actually, I started my never-ending family search when I wrote to John Hugh's dad, then Chief Justice of Nova Scotia, Lauchlin Daniel Currie. L D's wife, nee Curry, is also part of my "crowd. I had just begun studies as a 29 year old at UBC compliments of the Feds and RCAF so Canadian History and Economics seemed like a good career path as an officer.
Much too much info.
Again, all this to say, I am sorry to see John Hugh pass away. I have always been proud to call him a cousin.
God Bless everyone.
Cousin Francis Xavier McGillivary, RCAF Major Ret'd Ottawa
Condolences to Bobby & family: John was not only a great friend, but a business and professional associated spanning some 0 years. We enjoyed our years in the petroleum industry.....Tenneco, CDC Oil & Gas and survived and thrived in the creation of Canterra Energy. My first close encounter was helping John in his quest to become a board member of the Catholics School System. A recall the family's transportation at that time was a Volkswagen Beatle. In subsequent years John became President of Calgary Chamber of Commerce where I worked with him as the Chief Operating Officer...........a very interesting year ! In subsequent years, I recommended John as first Chairman of the Board of the newly minted Bow Valley College, which he became only to be button-holed by him a few years later to be nominated to the board of that institution.
John was indeed a community leader and served in so many capacities. John had scheduled a visit with me just a short time before his hospitalization; unfortunately and now with great regret, we had to cancel because of a covid outbreak at my residence. Rest in peace my friend, it is well deserved !

My condolences to Bobbie & to all of John’s children, grandchildren & extended family, as well as to the many friends that will miss him. He was a great friend to my late parents, Fred & Betty Perry. I’ve been inspired by his service and compassion, both as an organizational leader and also as an individual quietly helping other individuals. As a child I watched & learned, as John & Bobbie and my parents showed up for the work involved in sending a library-full of books to India. I saw the work of the parcel wrapping & the bake sales to pay the postage. And I also listened to the conversation, the stories & the laughter during those work parties — and got a message about community. I’m very moved, as I read about the scope of John’s wide support for his many communities, beyond the one I experienced. I can only imagine the difference that he made with the time he had on this earth.
On behalf of Youth Central Society, I wanted to extend our condolences. John played a integral role on the Board of Directors when the organization was in its early years and then as a Board Advisor for the organization for many years. We were very appreciative of his generous words of wisdom and leadership. He will be remembered fondly for all he did for the community.
With deepest sympathy,
Lisa Kindree and Youth Central
On behalf of the Chris and Linda Perry family of Kelowna BC, our condolences to Bobbie and the family for the loss of a great man.
I can't help but to remember John's involvement in my early life in Calgary, as he was so engaged with our Uncle Father Abraham and the "Books for Kurseong" project.
Many a night at the Perry household, wrapping used books to be donated from the library in Calgary to the library a St Alphonsus High School in India.
RIP John
I was lucky enough to know John in the mid eighties, when he was working on putting the Canterra Tower deal together. He was forthright, plainspoken, and a real treat to deal with in those days…I wish I had stayed in touch for the last 35 years or so…he sure accomplished alot. The world need’s more like him!

Dear Bobbie (and family) - my deepest condolences. I worked with John on the Canterra Tower project (I was the Oxford executive) and John taught me much about fair dealing, values, and ability to get things done. When in 1985 we were negotiating the Canterra lease, the meetings slipped into Stampede week. Being an Edmonton boy myself, It was very disarming to try to negotiate with John on the other side of the table with full cowboy attire including an enormous cowboy hat. I think that day he got everything he wanted..... I have several John stories, all of which have stayed with me, most of which with a lesson on how to be a better leader, a better person.
I will always remember John for what he taught me and all he did for the community and he will be missed indeed.
With Deepest Sympathy

Bobbie and Family, Anne and I are sorry for your loss. Thank you for sharing John with our community and supporting all of his volunteer activities. He wore his love for you and his pride in you on his sleeve for all to see.
I worked with John on the Board of the Calgary Homeless Foundation for many years. He was my mentor and an important role model in my life.
The hallmarks of his leadership style were respect, compassion, dignity, and grace.
Take comfort in knowing he helped thousands of people to escape homelessness and his legacy will continue to do so for generations to come.
In Cape Breton, when someone passed away, a simple compliment, “He or she was a good person,” was only reserved for those who really earned it. There is no doubt— John Currie was a good man.
Dear Currie family,
I am so sorry for the loss of John Currie. John was the first recipient of the Haskayne School/Calgary Chamber jointly sponsored Distinguished Business Leader Award. He honoured us and all recipients by consistently attending the annual award event to support and celebrate other recipients. That is what John did consistently - he supported and honoured others in the community and provided opportunities and platforms for others to contribute and to make Calgary a better city. I was fortunate to personally benefit from John's leadership when he asked me to serve with the Calgary Homeless Foundation almost 20 years ago. Our city is a much better place because of John's leadership and dedication to serving others. I am so proud that he was the first, and most perfectly suited Distinguished Business Leader!
On behalf of the staff, faculty, students, and alumni of the Haskayne School of Business, please know that our thoughts and prayers are with the Currie family during this difficult time. We love and honour John and appreciate all he did for us all.
Dear Bobbie and Family
My thoughts are with you on your loss of your beloved husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather.
John was true gentleman who was dedicated to his family, city and country.
I was privileged to be a board member under his leadership and mentoring at Bow Valley College and always valued his wise council. Over the years it was always a pleasure to see him and his Bobbie.
He made his true mark in all his humanitarian and philanthropic efforts in giving a hand up to many and inspiring others to do the same.
May he Rest In Peace and may all your wonderful memories over time sustain you.
I knew John only for a few years between 1984 and 1986. He left a life-long positive impression. His life touched many. His faith led him to always look for ways to serve. He lived on purpose. My heart goes out to Bobbie and the five children--- who I know respected and loved John dearly. May all of you be able to continue, in some way, John's vison to serve. Sincerely, Peter Nieman
Sending heartfelt condolences Bobbie, to you, and to the family. What a huge loss for all of you! We feel very blessed to have known you and John, and will hold many fond memories of him in our hearts. So wish we could be there for the funeral, but know that we are thinking of you and sending many hugs and prayers. Heaven has just received a good man, and one that will be greatly missed by many. Love, Elaine and Bill Morrow
