Obituary of Kenneth Alfred OTT

July 10, 1939 – Calgary, Alberta June 8, 2019 – Calgary, Alberta Kenneth Ott, beloved husband of Mary Ott of Calgary, AB, passed away peacefully on Saturday, June 8, 2019 at the age of 79 years. Ken was a proud, native Calgarian born on July 10, 1939 at Calgary General Hospital. He spent his younger years growing up in Calgary’s Bridgeland area. He was a student at Bridgeland, Langevin and Western Canada schools. Ken’s studies focused on Business Administration. Ken was an avid aviation enthusiast during his younger years. He later served in the Royal Canadian Air Force in Trenton, Ontario. Following his Air Force tour of duty, Ken returned to Calgary where he became a successful entrepreneur. He was a manager/owner of Daimark Draperies, followed by twenty-five years as a Project Manager with GWP Wallworks Group. Ken was hardworking, honourable, practical and relentless. In spite of his many health challenges and struggles, Ken was a strong-willed hero who never complained and always pushed forward. Ken strove to live his life his way; never letting others, nor doctors, discourage him. Ken enjoyed camping throughout Alberta and British Columbia. His favourite vacations were in the Maritimes and Newfoundland. Ken was an awesome cook and grill “master”. He loved his country and gospel music. He had a soft spot for animals, especially Shamus and Hershey. He had a keen interest in history, politics and was a passionate reader. Ken also had a huge interest in sports. In his younger years he trained for Golden Gloves boxing matches in Calgary. He also coached hockey teams in Calgary. He was an avid Flames and Stampeder fan. Ken had a unique sense of humour, which often stumped people. He enjoyed small groups of people and created wonderful friendships among the residents and nursing staff in the Chinook Care Centre. He also touched the lives of several young students through the LINKAGES PROGRAM, through which he often shared life experiences with them. Ken is survived by his loving and devoted wife of thirty-six years, Mary “Marushka”; son, Darren (Elisa) of Calgary; daughter, Tara “Boog” (Michael), of Stratford, Ontario; and step-children, Dorothy of Calgary, Tracy “Kid” of Cochrane, AB, and “Saint Sonny” of Calgary. He is also survived by six grandchildren, Rachel, Devin, Jacob, Dylan, Brayden and David; as well as several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Ken will be missed by dear friend of forty-five years, John Townley of Windsor, Ontario. Ken was predeceased by his parents, Jacob and Catherine; his sister Joyce, twin brother Fred, and daughter Cathy. At Ken’s request there will be no funeral service.
