Obituary of Bob Doss

Bob Doss, beloved husband of Brenda Doss (nee Oxner) passed away peacefully on Friday October 14 at the age of 82 years after a 26-year battle with cancer. He was surrounded by his family.

 

He was born on July 24, 1940 in McArthur, Arkansas and grew up close by in McGehee with his parents and five sisters and one brother who passed when Bob was very young. In 1958 Bob enlisted in the US Navy and served in the Pacific and Indian Ocean areas until 1961.

 

In 1962 he married the love of his life and wife of 60 years, Brenda Oxner. He attended seminary at Bethany Nazarene College (now SNU) in Bethany, Oklahoma where he graduated as an ordained reverend in the Nazarene church. He served in Pastoral ministry for the Church of the Nazarene in various locations in North America including Kansas, Missouri, Oklahoma, Ohio, and Alberta, Canada. After retiring from church ministry, he served as a Senior Housing Administrator for Calgary West Seniors Housing in Calgary for 27 years until his retirement in 2010.

 

Bob attended Foothills Alliance Church for 25 years and during that time enjoyed serving as a greeter and also on the board for the Prime Tymers ministry luncheons. He also created his Comfort Cross ministry, hand making wooden comfort crosses to distribute to seniors in hospitals, nursing homes, and hospices throughout Calgary. Bob’s relationship with God throughout his life allowed him to minister with love and compassion to everyone he ever knew. He loved people and constantly shared with them how God changed and worked in his life. Bob immensely loved and cared for his wife and family. He always made friends with everyone he met.

 

Bob is survived by his wife, Brenda, his two sons, Brian Doss and Brad Doss and daughter-in-law Marina (nee Mostert); and his two grandsons Cash and Ryan Doss, all of Calgary. He is also survived by two of his sisters, Lavaun Smith (James) of McGehee, Arkansas, and Sue Russell (Steve) of Strong, Arkansas.

 

Bob was predeceased by his parents Arthur Doss and Eva Estelle Doss; three of his sisters, Vivian Condry, Dorothy Thomas, and twin sister Barbara Knapp; as well as his brother Billy Doss.

 

A memorial service and celebration of his life and a reception of guests is open to all friends and family at the Foothills Alliance Church (333 Edgepark Boulevard NW, Calgary, AB) on Wednesday, October 26, 2022 at 2:00 p.m. Condolences, memories and photos can also be shared and viewed here.
