Obituary of Thomas Leon Pronyshyn

April 16, 1951 – Eastend, Saskatchewan

October 17, 2022 – Calgary, Alberta

Tom Pronyshyn, beloved husband of Vera Pronyshyn of Calgary, AB, passed away peacefully on Monday, October 17, 2022 at the age of 71 years.

Tom’s mother Anna came to Canada in 1948 and in 1951 Tom was born in Eastend where he grew up with his mother, father Nick, brother Nick, and sister Margie. He eventually moved to Calgary, AB where he met the love of his life, Vera Karpoff and started a family.

To say he was a hard-working man would be an understatement. He took tremendous pride in fixing, rebuilding, and servicing compressors and pumps. He travelled a great deal and was proud to have worked in the various mines throughout British Columbia and Alberta. Following cancer treatments Tom never waivered in his will to do what needed to be done, whether it was working with his good friends at CFM, helping his children keep their homes and vehicles in running order, or even re-roofing his house. There was nothing he couldn’t fix.

Tom loved nature, astronomy, and spending time in his yard. More than anything, he loved his wife, Vera; his three children, Nathan, Alicia, and Luke; and his granddaughters, Tennessee Rose Martin and Emmylou Poppy Pronyshyn. Tom was also very near and dear to his son-in-law, Lee Lorrain; and daughters-in-law, Brittany Babott and Marissa Abry.

Tom is survived by his sister, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Tom was predeceased by his mother, father and brother.

Tom was soft-spoken, generous, and wise. He spoiled his kids and granddaughters and never lost his mischievous and playful nature. He was always up to wrestle with his granddaughters, share his wisdom, or just sit silently and patiently listen. He will be greatly missed by his friends, family, and community.
