Obituary of Linda Hulme

April 9, 1960 – Buckland Brewer, North Devon, England

October 19, 2022– Calgary, Alberta

Linda Hulme (nee Wheeler) of Calgary, AB, passed away on Wednesday, October 19, 2022, at the age of 62 years.

Linda was born in Buckland Brewer, North Devon, England on April 19, 1960, to parents, Ernie and Barbara Wheeler (nee Jallow). She graduated from the Bideford Comprehensive School, England, with a degree in the "School of Life". Linda was particularly proud of her marriage to Martin, emigrating to Canada in 1996, and adopting her son Robert in 2000.

Linda was a seamstress and quality control inspector for Marks and Spencer's in England for seven years. She moved into the field of providing care to children, youth, and adults. In Canada, she spent 26 years providing in-home care, support, and advocacy for individuals with developmental difficulty and challenges.

Linda enjoyed her dogs, camping, sewing, knitting, cooking and her garden, as well as a love for playing bingo. Most of all Linda cared, supported, and advocated for others who couldn't for themselves.

Linda’s most memorable vacations were when she visited the Hawaiian Island of Maui in 2010, her many summer visits to the Okanagan Valley in BC, but her favorite place was Las Vegas, which she visited many times. Linda will be most remembered for her passion for caring for, loving, and supporting others less fortunate than her.

She is Gone by David Harkins

“You can shed tears that she is gone

Or you can smile because she has lived

You can close your eyes and pray that she will come back

Or you can open your eyes and see all that she has left

Your heart can be empty because you can’t see her

Or you can be full of the love that you shared”

Besides her loving husband Martin, Linda is survived by her son Robert, sisters Sandra of Bideford, England, Susan of Okotoks, AB, and Jen of Airdrie, AB, Nephew Darren of Northam, England; and her two dogs, Sasha and Milo.

Linda was predeceased by her mother and father, Ernie and Barbara Wheeler (nee Jollow); brother Kalvin, and pets Duke, Ringo, Foxy and Chester.

Funeral Services will be held at McInnis & Holloway (Fish Creek, 14441 Bannister Road SE, Calgary, AB) on Monday, October 24, 2022, at 10:00 a.m. Reception to follow in the Hospitality Centre at the Funeral Home. Condolences, memories, and photos can also be shared and viewed here.

Thank you to the Foothills Medical Centre staff for caring for Linda in her last days and hours. Staff and patients at the South Calgary Urgent Care Unit made her frequent visits to dialysis somewhat bearable. Susan, Jenn and Nev, Mike Quance, Mike and Linda Bock, Katie and Robbie Burns, and many others who assisted our family in transitioning to a new way of life in Canada, but also for making this part of Linda's Life Journey so enjoyable and fulfilling.
