Obituary of Gemma Giovanna Martini (nee Endrizzi)

August 12, 1928 – Don, Trentino-Alto Adige/Südtirol, Italy

October 22, 2022 – Calgary, Alberta

Gemma Martini of Calgary, AB, passed away on Saturday, October 22, 2022 at the age of 94.

Gemma was born in Don, Trentino-Alto Adige/Südtirol, Italy on August 12, 1928.  She married Renato Martini in Italy on April 23, 1960, and immigrated to Calgary, AB the same year.

Gemma and her husband, Renato selflessly worked incredibly hard to build a beautiful life for their family.  Gemma took pride in caring for her family and was the most caring Nonna for her grandchildren.  She was a fun and loving wife, mother, grandmother and will always be remembered lovingly by all.

Gemma was passionate about cooking, sewing, music, dancing and entertaining family and friends.  She loved being social and made new friends wherever she went. Gemma loved to travel and had many memorable vacations to Italy and Hawaii, as well as cruising to many other tropical destinations.

Gemma was an incredibly proud and independent women that took pride in being beautifully dressed and well groomed. She will be mostly remembered for her vibrant smile, infectious laugh, charming personality and endearing spirit.

Gemma is survived by her son, Joe Martini and her daughter-in-law, Angela Martini; her daughter, Mary Werstuik and her son-in-law, Don Werstuik; and three granddaughters, Katarina Martini, Isabella Martini and Sabrina Werstuik. She is also survived by her two sisters-in-law, Maria Martini of Ronzone, Trentino-Alto Adige/Südtirol, Italy and Paula Martini of Bolzano, Trentino-Alto Adige/Südtirol, Italy, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Gemma was predeceased by her husband Renato Martini and her sister Agnese Endrizzi.

Relatives and friends are invited to Prayers and Tributes at McInnis & Holloway (Park Memorial, 5008 Elbow Drive SW, Calgary, AB) on Friday, October 28, 2022 at 6:00 p.m. A reception to follow after the prayer service.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Michael Catholic Community (800 – 85th Street S.W., Calgary, AB) on Saturday, October 29, 2022 at 10:00 a.m. Graveside Service to follow at Queens Park Mausoleum. Condolences, memories, and photos can also be shared and viewed here.

The family would like to thank Dr. Elisabeth Woolner, the nurses, and the staff at AMICA Aspen Woods, as well as the Unit 71 doctors, nurses and staff from the Rockyview Hospital for their loving care and support.
