Obituary of Shirley Maureen Wanner

May 25, 1934 - Estevan, Saskatchewan

October 23, 2022 - Calgary, Alberta

Shirley Wanner of Calgary, AB, passed away peacefully on Sunday, October 23, 2022 at the age of 88 years, with her daughter Susan by her side.

Shirley was a kind, compassionate and caring person. She was fiercely proud of her family and took a lot of joy in taking care of those around her. She was affectionately called “Groonie'', and being a grandmother was one of her most treasured roles.

She was an impeccable cook with many signature dishes, (her butter tarts were world famous!). She kept a beautiful home and garden, and regularly hosted family events, game nights and parties.

Her fondest moments were spent with her husband Mark at their family cabin on Mahood Lake. She would enjoy her summers picking berries, bird watching and foraging for mushrooms. She loved the Canadian wilderness and created many photo albums, cataloging the beauty she was surrounded by.

Her family would like to extend their gratitude for all of the support Shirley experienced during her six years in long term care. She received regular calls, letters and visits from friends and neighbours. The staff in the Parkland Unit of the Southwood Care Centre also went above and beyond to make her more comfortable. She appreciated all of you very much.
