Obituary of Marcel Gosselin

December 14, 1930 – Willow Bunch, Saskatchewan

October 23, 2022 – Calgary, Alberta

Marcel Gosselin, beloved husband of the Late Gloria Gosselin (passed in 2013), of Calgary, AB, passed away peacefully on Sunday, October 23, 2022, at the age of 91 years.

Marcel was born in Willow Bunch, SK, on December 14, 1930, and was the oldest of six children to Marie and Alfred Gosselin. Marcel married the love of his life, Gloria Marie Gosselin in 1966 and they spent the next forty-seven years together eventually settling in Calgary, AB. Marcel lived a full life and did not take anything for granted. He became a Journeyman Iron Worker young in life after other ventures in oil and gas, coal mining, and the Canadian Pacific Railway. After many decades he eventually became a Lifetime Member of the International Associates of Bridge Structural & Ornamental Iron Workers Local Union 725. He retired from Iron Work and was a member of the union for over sixty-five years before his passing. He was proud of his contributions to the Calgary landscape.  This included working on bridges and several buildings in Calgary such as the Suncor and PetroCanada Towers. He also worked on Winsport, Canada Olympic Park for the 1988 Calgary Winter Olympics with the rebar work on the luge runs and ski lifts.

Marcel loved road trips to visit his siblings and friends in Saskatchewan, Edmonton, and Innisfail. He loved taking his girls and his grandchildren fishing – always taking care of bating the hooks and bonking the fish so his girls did not have to get their hands dirty.  He loved to go on nature walks in Kananaskis to skip rocks and have picnics at Elbow Falls. Marcel was always up for a good meal of fish and chips at his favourite restaurant Ricky’s.

Marcel liked all kinds of movies from classic John Wayne and Spaghetti Westerns, Smokey and the Bandit to any movie with Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson. When spending time at home he enjoyed playing crazy 8's or Trouble with his girls and grandchildren. He loved checking out classic car shows and watching WWE back in the day - when it was real wrestling.

He will be most remembered for his silly personality, sincere generosity, and the care he provided to his girls as we grew up. He always said family is so important and that we always need to be there for one another. He was a dedicated hard-working and loving man, but mostly, he was a proud husband, father, grandfather, and friend.

Marcel is survived by his two daughters, Leona Maria Gosselin, and Miriam Ann Gosselin, both of Calgary, AB; two sons-in-law, Stephen Hryciuk, and Dean Haug, and two grandchildren, Kalea Paige Willoughby, and Chase Joseph Haug. Marcel is also survived by his two brothers, Lawrence, and Raymond, both in Moosejaw, SK; three sisters, Yvette of Moosejaw, SK, Lillian of Edmonton, AB, and Leona of Moosejaw, SK; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Besides his loving wife Gloria, Marcel was predeceased by his parents, Marie and Alfred.

We would like to note a special thank you to Generations Calgary and the care team for the love and care they provided to Marcel for the last three years.
