Jean June Toy Hall, beloved wife of Ben Toy Hall, of Calgary, passed away on Monday, October 24, 2022, at the age of 103 years.

Jean Hall’s Chinese name, Ngo Thew Yee, was born in Ho Nam village in Southern China on February 29, 1919, from parents Ngo Lo Kay and Gue De Hai. Thew Yee had two brothers.

Jean lived in Ho Nam village with her family until the age of 25 years. Jean then went to Hong Kong, and in 1950, she immigrated to Edmonton, AB, Canada. Her father was in Lethbridge, AB. Jean went to Lethbridge where her father introduced her to Ben Toy Hall. They liked each other and were married in 1951 in Fernie, BC. Ben ran a restaurant in Cardston where they settled. Their first two children, Betty, and Norm were born in Cardston. In 1954, Ben and Jean moved to Lethbridge and opened several grocery stores. Dan and Ken were born in Lethbridge. In 1976, Ben and Jean sold their grocery, retired, and then moved to Calgary.

Jean is survived by her four children, Betty (Patrick), Norm (Jane), Dan (Joann), and Ken (Maria); ten grandchildren, Peter, Michael, Jennifer, Jake, Colton, Charlotte, Lauren, Ellen, Abby, and Sarah; as well as two great-granddaughters, Alicia, and Sloane.

Although not formally educated, Jean was very street smart, hardworking, and was committed to keeping the family close and well educated. She was one of the strongest-willed people you will ever meet and had a tremendous life force to keep on going to the treasured age of 103 years.

Join your husband and our father, Ben, and rest in peace.
