Obituary of Ruth Atkins

March 2, 1930 – Chilliwack, British Columbia

October 28, 2022 - Calgary, Alberta

It is with profound sadness that the family of Ruth Atkins announce her passing on Friday, October 28, 2022, at the age of 92 years.

Mom was born March 2, 1930, in Chilliwack, BC. She graduated from Chilliwack High in 1948 and after working for the Bank of Commerce joined the RCAF in 1952. She spotted Dad across the dance floor while both were stationed at Sea Island Vancouver and said, “I'm going to marry that man”. Dad never stood a chance. He was a lucky man. They were married in 1955 and by 1959 they were stationed in Gimli, MB, and were the proud parents of four sons.

After leaving the RCAF in 1963 Ruth and Cec spent their time between Chilliwack and Calgary, depending on the needs of family. They loved the outdoors, and they always had a motorhome on the go for camping and travel.

Mom spent her lifetime supporting her family in any way she could. A tough love Mom and Gramma, she taught her clan well. We will miss you, Mom.

Ruth leaves behind her sons Doug (Dianne), Bill, John, and Jim; grandchildren, Taylor (Kirby), Kendall (Adam), and their mother Sharon Atkins; Charli and Mckenzie (Brandon) Atkins, Beau, Bryan (Kailey) and Nick (Kassandra) Atkins; great-grandchildren Carter and Zoey Kuntz, Parker Atkins, Nixon, Lincoln and Pierce Atkins, and Mack Atkins. Ruth was predeceased by her husband of 62 years, Cecil Atkins, her parents, Arthur D. and Eleanor (nee Johnstone) Rundle; and her siblings, Bea, Audrey, and Rex.

A Mass will be held for Ruth on Friday, November 11, 2022, at 1:00 pm at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, 1525 – 45 Street S.E., Calgary, T2A 1W3.  All are welcome.
