Obituary of Shirley Kathleen Shannon

January 24, 1936 - Brinkman's Corners, Ontario

October 28, 2022 - Calgary, Alberta

It is with extreme sadness that we announce the passing of Shirley Kathleen Shannon, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, on Friday, October 28, 2022, at the age of 86 years.

Shirley was born in Brinkman’s Corners, ON, on January 24, 1936, and was surrounded by many brothers and sisters. Shirley moved to Calgary, AB, where she would meet her future husband, William (Bill). They were married on September 20, 1975, and lived in Calgary, Edmonton, Smithers, Telkwa, and Kamloops, BC. Shirley accomplished much throughout her life and was particularly proud of being a mom. She spent many hours in the kitchen, baking for friends and family, and hosting family gatherings. She was everyone’s rock and would drop anything to help her family and friends. Shirley will be most remembered for her love of her family and her ability to make everyone feel like they were the most important person in the world.

Shirley had a huge, loving heart and enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. She was very creative and had several interests, like gardening, bowling, golfing, playing cards, doing puzzles, and working on her ceramics, but her true passions were spending time with her grandchildren and her dog, Katie. Shirley loved to travel with her husband and family. She visited Scotland, Hawaii, Mexico, and the Dominican Republic, amongst other locations.

Shirley is survived by her sons, Lonny (Susan) of Bellevue, AB, Jim (Diane) of Strathmore, AB, Mel (Jane) of Calgary, AB, and Peter (Tara) of Quesnel, BC; her daughters, Denise of Calgary, AB, and Sherry of Calgary, AB; as well as her beloved grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. She will also be remembered and missed by her many friends. 

Shirley was predeceased by her loving husband, William (Bill) of Kamloops, BC, and her sons, Noble (Penny) of Calgary, AB, Rick of Edmonton, AB, Jeff of Kamloops, BC, and Ron (Joan) of Calgary, AB.

Those wishing to pay their respects may do so at McInnis & Holloway (Crowfoot, 82 Crowfoot Circle NW, Calgary, AB) on Saturday, November 5, 2022, from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. Funeral Service to follow at the Funeral Home at 10:00 a.m. Reception to follow in the Hospitality Centre at the Funeral Home.
