Obituary of Loretta Rose Sorochan

Loretta Rose Sorochan (nee Storgre) of Calgary, AB, passed away November 14, 2022 at the Agape Hospice at the age of 85 years, after a courageous battle with cancer. Beloved mother, grandmother and friend, she was a woman with a big heart and unending passion to learn and teach about nature and natural healing, especially with essential oils.

Loretta studied education at the University of Alberta and began her teaching career in 1958 in Hinton, AB.  She was known and remembered by her students for going the extra mile to create lessons that strayed from tradition, with activities geared toward instilling a natural interest in learning. Many students remember her unique kindergarten classroom in Hinton.  Inspired by nature and her beloved Rocky Mountains, she created beauty in what ever she put her mind and hands to (classroom learning aids and activities, oil painting, mukluk making, ceramics, etc).

Loretta is survived by her two children, Judi Rusk (Bill McClelland) of Hinton, AB and Michael Sorochan (Pam Sorochan) of Edmonton, AB as well as two grandchildren, Kynan Sorochan and Anna Janosch (Carlin Janosch), also of Edmonton, AB.

A Memorial Service will be held at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Calgary West Stake Centre (6560 Silver Springs Crescent NW, Calgary, AB) on Thursday, November 24, 2022, at 11:00 a.m. Condolences, memories, and photos can also be shared and viewed here.
