Obituary of Efren Origenes Marquez

November 3, 1953 – Macalelon, Quezon, Philippines

November 14, 2022 - Calgary, Alberta

 

Efren Marquez, beloved husband, father, and grandfather passed away on Monday, November 14, 2022, at the age of 69 years. 

 

Efren was born in Macalelon, Quezon, Philippines on November 3, 1953. He immigrated to Canada in September 1982. He graduated from Carleton University (’94) with a M. Eng in Civil Engineering, and from Feati University with a B.Sc. in Management Engineering. He was a federal public servant for over 25 years. Efren married Eden Navaluna (his “Dolly”) in 1987. He will be most remembered for his wisdom, sense of humour, love for spontaneous road trips, and singing to his children and grandchildren. 

 

Besides his loving wife, Efren leaves behind his daughter Benazir (Robert Bartlett), son Bryan (Chelsea Leafloor), and three grandsons, Rory, Emmett, and Riley. Efren is also survived by his mother Felicidad Marquez, his brothers, Audie, Danny (Nina); his sisters, Myrna, Melinda, and Sharon (Brian McCaffrey); his brothers-in-law, Edmar (Gercel), Edelito (Jonah), Edilberto Jr. (Lita), Edison (Sheila), and Mark Keleher; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and friends. Efren was predeceased by his father Rudy Marquez, sister Vinia Keleher, mother-in-law Virginia, and father-in-law Edilberto Navaluna.  

 

Those wishing to pay their respects may do so at McInnis & Holloway (12281 – 40th Street SE, Calgary, AB) on Tuesday, November 22, 2022, from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m.

 

Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Albert the Great Catholic Church (10 Prestwick Drive S.E., Calgary AB) on Wednesday, November 23, 2022, at 11:00 a.m.  Condolences, memories, and photos may be shared and viewed at www.McInnisandHolloway.com.

 

The family would like to thank Dr. Farrah Issa, Dr. Benedykt Syposz, the staff at the University of Ottawa Heart Institute, the Eye Institute and Multi Care Kidney Clinic at the Ottawa Hospital, the Champlain Local Health Integration Network, and the South Health Campus in Calgary.
