Obituary of Angelino Rizzuti

September 27, 1957 – November 18, 2022

Calgary, Alberta

It is with profound sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Angelino (“Angelo”) Rizzuti, who passed away on Friday, November 18, 2022, at the age of 65 years.

Angelo was born in Calgary, AB, on September 27, 1957. He married Wendy (nee Deren) in 1982 and together they welcomed their daughter Angelina, his pride and joy, soon after. Angelo’s passion revolved around his family and loved being a “G-daddy” to his two darling granddaughters.

Angelo graduated from the University of Calgary with a Bachelor of Education Degree and worked for almost 30 years as an elementary school teacher with the Calgary Separate School District. He loved teaching and took special pride as the Safety Patrol Instructor at various schools, becoming the top patroller in the city on two separate occasions.

Angelo was all about connecting with others, and for many he was the bond that linked people together. He warmed the hearts of many with love, compassion, and humour. After meeting Angelo, you know you had made a friend. He revelled in learning about the daily adventures of those close to him. Interactions with Angelo inevitably ended with a quick joke or an offer of a “monks”, his favourite candy.

He loved music, especially classic rock, and Italian folk, and in his 20’s he enjoyed playing the drums. Angelo was quick to share that he played a mean ukulele for Angelina as a child (but truthfully, she was the only one who could tolerate it). Angelo enjoyed sports, especially cheering on his beloved Calgary Flames. Many will recall that he had his scooter painted in Flames colours and signed by the entire team.

Angelo is lovingly remembered by his wife of forty years Wendy, his daughter Angelina (Aaron), granddaughters, Allegra and Cressida; father-in-law Iloza “Al”, and mother-in-law Elsie Jean. Angelo is also survived by his sister-in-law N. Francis (Gord), and brothers, Guido (Maria), Mario (Marisa), and Tony (Carla); nieces and nephews, Farrah (Kevin), Apostolos “Tolly” (Kristin), Franco, Brianna, Andrea, Anthony, Robert, and Sabrina (Coltyn); in addition to numerous relatives. Angelo was predeceased by his mother Maria, and father Francesco.

Despite a lengthy battle with Muscular Dystrophy, Angelo was always positive and rose above the adversity of his daily struggles. He is leaving his wheels behind but has provided a trail for others to follow.

Relatives and friends are invited to a viewing for those wishing to pay their respects at McInnis & Holloway (Chapel of The Bells, 2720 Centre Street North, Calgary, AB) on Wednesday, November 23, 2022, from 6:30 p.m.–8:00 p.m.

Funeral Services will be held at McInnis & Holloway (Chapel of The Bells, 2720 Centre Street North, Calgary, AB), on Thursday, November 24, 2022, at 10:00 a.m. Graveside Service to follow at Mountain View Cemetery.
