Obituary of John Louis Forget
August 4, 1940 – Ponteix, Saskatchewan
November 19, 2022 – Calgary, Alberta
John Forget, beloved husband of Elaine Forget (nee Sittler), of Calgary, AB, passed away on Saturday, November 19, 2022, at the age of 82 years.
John was born in Ponteix, SK, on August 4, 1940. He was the seventh of eight children born to Guillaume and Rachel (nee Rousseau) Forget.
John married his loving wife Elaine in July of 1973. He will be deeply missed and remembered by his wife and son Robert (Kimberley nee Hunter), and his two grandchildren, Alexandre and Samuel, who were very special to him.
John will also be remembered by his surviving siblings Yolande (Leo) Thibault, and Simone (Edward) Desautels, as well as surviving brothers and sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, and friends.
John was predeceased by his parents, Guillaume and Rachel Forget; sisters Laurette Martin (John), Cecile Harvey (Peter); and brothers Willie (Rita), René (Alice) and Gaston (Paulette).
John’s early education began in a country school and progressed to an urban all boys school, before eventually culminating at the University of Saskatchewan for a Bachelor of Arts and a Bachelor of Education after Teacher’s College. He taught in Saskatchewan until his retirement in 1993.
After retirement, John was always busy in the house working on metal structures, fret working with wood, and completing a beautiful infinity table. He was always helping wherever needed including with his family, friends, and the Church.
John and Elaine lived in may places including Saskatoon SK, Prince Albert SK, Sooke, BC, and finally Calgary, AB. He loved to fish, camp, and travel, as well as repair, maintain, and remodel his homes.
John was a devoted Catholic and a man of great faith, believing in the Lord and the Lord’s plans. John is greatly loved and will be forever remembered by all the people whose lives that he has touched.
Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St Patrick's Catholic Church (1414 Shawnessy Blvd SW, Calgary, AB) on Friday, November 25, 2022 at 1:30 p.m. Graveside Service to follow at St. Patrick’s Cemetery (14608 Macleod Trail SE, Calgary, AB T2X 1Z8).
