Obituary of Patricia Jean Jenkins

March 8, 1932 – Kindersley, Saskatchewan

November 24, 2022 – Calgary, Alberta

Patricia “Jean” Jenkins of Calgary, AB, passed away peacefully on Thursday, November 24, 2022, at the age of 90 years.

Jean was born March 8, 1932, in Kindersley, SK. She lived in Marengo, SK until age 12, when she and her parents moved to Calgary, following two of her three older sisters. She attended Sacred Heart School, St. Mary’s Girls’ School, and Henderson Business College.

Jean worked as a secretary in oil and gas and enjoyed bowling, dancing, and socializing. She met her future husband, Brian, at the Bowness Golf Club and they married in 1960. In 1962, they welcomed their first of four daughters. Jean was a busy stay-at-home mom, raising her girls and supporting their activities. She later returned to the workforce, working part-time for the Calgary Board of Education for many years, while continuing to make the family and home-life her priorities. She also enjoyed bingo, crib with Brian, visits over coffee, and occasional trips to the casino. She and Brian shared much fun and laughter with friends at their monthly gin games, Boxing Day parties, and annual Hillsun Golf Tournament.

Faith was always a cornerstone of Jean’s life. In her youth she attended Sacred Heart Church with her dad. In the early 1960s, she joined St. Pius X Parish where she contributed in many ways. All the while, Jean lived her Christian faith: praying the rosary, attending daily mass, and creating a neighbourhood prayer group. But most of all, she was kind. She opened her heart and home to others, never hesitating to lend a helping hand.

Jean is survived by her daughters, Barbara, Joanne (Shahid), Maureen, and Susan; granddaughter Olivia; and many extended family members. She was predeceased by Brian, her husband of 56 years; parents, Rosetta and Thomas Quigley; and sisters, Mary, Evelyn, and Babe.

Jean’s loving spirit, sweet disposition, sense of humour, and enduring optimism will be greatly missed and remembered always.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Pius X Catholic Church (2424 - 24 Avenue N.W.) on Monday, December 12, 2022, at 11:00 a.m. Reception to follow in the Parish Hall.
