Obituary of Slade David Eric Smith

With immense heartache and sadness, the family of Slade Smith announces his tragic and sudden passing at the age of 7 years, on Tuesday, November 29, 2022.

Slade was born on his due date, June 28, 2015. He was a happy, sensitive, easygoing, and all-around amazing little boy. He loved music, especially upbeat top hits. Some of his favourite toys were Transformers (specifically Bumble Bee and Optimist Prime), Lego, and dinosaurs.

Slade was in Grade 2 at Bayside Elementary School and a first-year hockey player for the Bow Valley Hockey Association. His dad, Dave, was an assistant hockey coach on the team and helped Slade develop his skills and love for the game. Slade couldn’t wait for the lake outside his house to freeze so he could skate on it. He also loved swimming, riding his bike, jumping off the dock, spending time in the hot tub, and making s’mores by the firepit in the backyard.

When Slade was a baby, his mom, Cinder, would tell him when she tucked him in at night: “You’re my favourite person on the whole planet; no one loves you more than mommy.” As Slade grew older, he would say it to Cinder first. Slade was Cinder’s “honey bunny” and her whole world.

Slade will forever be missed and will always be remembered for his beautiful, big blue eyes, his smile, and for all the love he brought into the world in his short time. Slade will never be forgotten by his mom, Cinder Smith (Jeff Kuropatwa) and his dad, David Smith (Tobi Smith); stepbrother Tyler, stepsister Addison, as well as his Nanna Faye Inglis and Papa Colin Inglis; Uncle Nathan, Uncle Jordan (Cousins Aiden and Elizabeth), and Uncle Cam Inglis (Cousins Lily and Finn), Auntie Kate and Uncle Brett; Auntie Carrie and Uncle Ken; and Grandma Lynne Ansbro and Grandpa Larry Rupert; as well as many family and friends.

Funeral Services will be held at McInnis & Holloway (Deerfoot South, 12281 – 40th Street SE, Calgary, AB) on Friday, December 9, 2022, at 2:00 p.m. Reception to follow in the Hospitality Centre at the Funeral Home. Condolences, memories, and photos may be shared and viewed here.

A Memorial Foundation will be started in Slade’s honour.

The family would like to thank the Calgary Fire Department, EMS, and South Health Campus staff.

Slade Smith of Calgary, AB, passed away on Tuesday, November 29, 2022, at the age of 7 years.

Slade was born in Calgary, AB, Canada, on June 28, 2015. He went to school at Bayside Elementary School.

There isn’t one particular thing Slade’s family can point out for his accomplishments, as in everything he did, he always put in 110%. So, we are proud of everything he did. Slade loved his family and enjoyed every moment he had with them. He was becoming very passionate about hockey and motocross.

Slade’s most memorable vacation was when we went to Ainsworth this past summer. Being on the ferry crossing the lake, playing in his kayak every day, and swimming in the lake with his siblings, it was special to everybody.

Slade’s favourite saying was “BRUH!!!!”. He will be most remembered for his enormous smile and contagious laughter. He always wanted to do everything that his Daddy was doing, no matter what it was.

Slade is survived by his mother and stepfather, Cinder Smith and Jeff Kuropatwa, and their children, Tyler and Addison Kuropatwa; his father and stepmother, David and Tobi Smith, and their children Mackenzie (Germany), Jadon (Calgary), Isaiah (Calgary), Kayson (Calgary), Emma (Calgary), Benjamin (Calgary), Tyeson (Calgary), and Jaci (Calgary); his grandparents,  Harvey and Kristine Burt (Calgary); Colin and Faye Inglis (Calgary); Larry and Lynne Kuropatwa; Wayne Kolach and Nadine Smith (Calgary); and Myles Huff and Lois Thompson (Calgary); as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Slade was predeceased by Dave Eric Kern (The Pas, MB).
