Obituary of Joan Corinne Warren

Joan Warren (nee Reay) of Calgary, AB passed away peacefully on Friday, December 2, 2022 at the age of 91 years, with her children at her side.

Joan was predeceased by her beloved husband Ken, in 2012 after nearly 60 years of marriage. Together, they raised four children in Winnipeg, MB before relocating to Calgary in 1973. Joan was Mom, Grandma, GG, and Auntie Joan to her loving family: daughters, Lynne Pennington of Asheville, NC (Rod) and Diane Warren; sons, Ken Warren (Pat) and Rick Warren (BJ Collins); grandchildren, Shannon, Erin, Michael, Matthew, Grace, and Maggie; and great-grandchildren, Holden, Quinn and Landon. Family was everything to her, and she was the center of our world. She will be forever missed and loved.

Joan was born and raised in Winnipeg, along with her older sister, Lorraine, and younger brother Jack, both of whom predeceased her. She graduated from St. John’s Tech High School. Dancing was her childhood passion, one that remained throughout her life. She also loved music and was thrilled to sing in a choir well into her 80s. Prior to her retirement in 1995, Joan was employed as an executive secretary at Sceptre Resources in Calgary. She loved her job and the professionals she worked with. Joan spent the last eight years of her life as a very active member of the Amica Aspen Woods retirement community. Being the outgoing people person that she was, she took on the role of Welcome Ambassador and dedicated herself to that role even when declining health made it difficult for her. She was a friend to all.

A Celebration of Joan’s Life will be held at McInnis & Holloway (Park Memorial, 5008 Elbow Drive SW, Calgary, AB) on Saturday, December 10, 2022 at 2:00 p.m. Reception to follow in the Hospitality Centre at the Funeral Home. Condolences, memories, and photos can also be shared and viewed here.
