Obituary of Maria (Espie) Alegria Esperanza Mallare

Maria Mallare, commonly known as “Espie,” of Calgary, AB, passed away on Saturday, December 3, 2022 at the age of 53 years.

 

Espie was born in Manila, Philippines on May 9, 1969. She immigrated to Canada in 2005. Espie graduated from the Dr. Faustino Legaspi Uy College with her Bachelor of Science in Nursing.

 

Espie accomplished much throughout her life and was particularly proud of being MC Coordinator and Employee of the Month at Amica. Espie enjoyed traveling and taking pictures and selfies. Her most memorable vacation was when she went to Disneyland where she met, hugged, and kissed Mickey Mouse and Minnie Mouse.

 

Espie’s favourite quote was “Great leaders don’t set out to be a leader. They set out to make a difference. It’s never about the role - always about the goal”. She will be most remembered for her perseverance, dedication, genuine love and care, not only for her family but for her friends and patients as well.

 

Besides her husband, Jim Terp of Calgary, Espie is survived by her four siblings, Luth De Leon, Marina Allen, Bojie Mallare, and Detdette Lopez of Philippines. Espie is also survived by her ten nieces and nephews, Jorelle, Chesca, Ena, Nicole, Leanne, Misha, Janick, Deanne, Niko, and Jelay; and three grandchildren, Julian, Jasen, and Isla as well as numerous cousins, and friends. She was predeceased by her parents, Luz and Ed Mallare, and her grandmother, Loreto Mallare.
